Hello all,
Well it's that time again, college classes are Starting up and it's now my sophomore year and man did we get an odd assignment. We have to come up with 2 drum set rhythms that go with each other or contrast each other and they can't be the same style. He said they can be really close friends (blues and shuffle) or worst enemies (I donno, metal and samba) but they can't be obviously the same thing. Then on presentation day we have to play the first, the teacher will hold it, then play the second and trade volumes and accents with our instructor. So here's what I've started to come up with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whlE3CEbTls
First i did an afoxe beat then i put a weird samba fusion thing on top of it. First for the fusion samba part should I put the floor Tom part on the bell of the ride? Also so do you think I'm to much in the same family? Should I do like the first thing and then blues or something? I wanted to do a rare kinda thing (afoxe) and thena popular thing (samba).
Please help me! I really wanna start of the year good! I'm open to anything but swing because they will be expecting that from me.
Thanks!!

listen to benny greb's brass band album.... he uses a jazz type rhythm in contrast to a half time shuffle all the time

Yea, that's pretty sweet. I wanna do something a bit more world oriented I think. If I do swing and shuffle John Riley is gonna give me that "really" look because last year all I gravitated to was swing, that's also how I got in there to begin with.
What goes with samba or even like the west side story show tune "America" that 3/4 beat with something else in 3/4? We don't present until Friday so I have some time to make it solid and right.
