Default Six Ludwig Snares, Two Thorough Videos

Hey everyone, I've recently opened up a YouTube page for 2112 Percussion, where I've been a teacher for 4 years. We get a lot of really cool drums through the shop, and I've been toying with the idea for a while, so for our first video, I got to take home six Ludwig metal snares from the shop (about half of the models in stock) for a couple days to record some demos.

I've easily watched a couple hundred hours' worth of drum demos, and I've seen a lot of talking for half the video, or tuning the drums lazily, or not recording them particularly well, or sometimes all, so I tried to remedy those things as much as I could in what ended up being two half-hour long videos.

I have a fairly well-equipped home studio and my main goal was to make the drums sound as much as I could like they did when I was playing them, with minimal talking, and with at least five different pitches on each drum. They weren't necessarily planned out as half-hour videos, that's just what it took to splice thirty different takes of drum footage together. Part 1 features the stock heads and Part 2 features coated Ambassadors on the batter side.

Enjoy! 2112's Ludwig Snare Shootout Part 1 - Part 2

Awesome video!

Super brass
Copperphonic
Supra
Black Beauty
tie between the other 2.

I like the sound of raw lacquered brass shells better than the nickel coateds.

This proves it.

Thank you for the great video!

Thank you for the video! Great demos.

When you went through the different pitches, were you only adjusting the resonant head? Or did you end up adjusting both top and bottom?

Nice video, nice drumming too. Pretty nice range on all those snares.
I liked the Copperphonic a lot. Supralite punches above its price point.

Thank you all for watching!

To save on time I only tuned the top heads, but all of the snare side heads on all the drums were tuned to the same pitch.
