I always had this doubt about the plies and how much millimeters they have. Variations exists right? But over the vintage drums how many millimeters have a vintage ply?
The shell thickness did vary quite a bit between 3,5 and 6 ply vintage drums. The common ply layup was mahogany/poplar/mahogany or maple. The poplar plys were thicker than the inner and outer plys.Overall thickness was usually between 3/16 and 5/16"
