The Bo Diddley beat

Larry

"Uncle Larry"
OK so everyone knows that Bo Diddley didn't invent this beat. From what I gather, it's origins are in the mother country, Africa, but would like more information about this staple rhythm. Can I glean pearls of wisdom from the collective amalgamation of knowledge from the great minds who frequent this fine forum?

Don't ban Wy, or I'm taking my toys and going home.

Right Jeff, but where did the son clave come from precisely?

Bo Diddley wasn't even a drummer! (I think) No fair!

As an aside, supposedly the was an "instrument" called a Diddley Bow....2 nails nailed to the side of the house, with a piece of (baling?) wire stretched between, played with a pick and a slide, if my info is correct.

Stupid question, but what exactly is the Bo Diddley beat?

No such thing as a stupid question...just stupid people. :)
As mentioned, it's an accented 3-2 clave pattern. You'll probably recognize it when you hear it. It's been used in many popular songs: Buddy Holly-Not Fade Away; U2-Pride; I Want Candy-Bow Wow Wow, etc.
