Mark McKay

It's time this guy get some recognition. He's actually a drummer for a hardcore punk band called Slapshot, and is recognizable for having a very small 3-piece kit that has no rack toms: Just a snare, kick, floor tom, and cymbals.

His style, while straightforward, augments all the guitar riffs VERY well. All the patterns are energetic, bouncy, and kick-heavy, with some pretty fast snare rolls and single-kick action. In addition to the stamina needed to play such drumparts, one must also take note of how well Mark listens to the other instruments and plays the hard and heavy beats to fit the whole sound.

Good songs by the band that show his cool drumming are Silence, Get Me Out, Back On the Map, Tear Down the Walls, and 16 Valve Hate.

Re: Mark McKay (Slapshot)

I setup the same as him, but I'm also playing on rims and using a lot of 'playful' effects (domes of cymbals, sides of drums)

It just seems like he plays that same generic punk beat, and changed dynamics and from 2 bass hits in between 2 and 4, to 1.
