Shai Hayo played with Sheila E. and a bunch of other people. I see his salsa band on occasion and we shake hands.

I once said, "Good show." to David Garibaldi.

I went to high school and was in high school band with Dave Weckl. we had an award winning jazz band Dave played drum kit i played percussion. He was a monster drummer when he was in 9th grade. We all pretty much thought he was from a different planet.

The late Robbie France- the most grounded down to earth guy you could ever meet- mad as a brush but a brilliant chap.

Mel Gaynor from Simple Minds- not a big fan, lets leave it at that.

Bob Dalton (It Bites) -nice guy.

Ian Mosely- Marrilion, very quiet chap.

Roxy Pettrucci- Vixen- Yum!, and a damn fine player- gave me some beer!

Ian Paice- again a very quiet, unassuming guy.

Seen lots of others in the flesh, but didn't officially meet them- Steve White/Vinnie/Weckl/Gadd/ Cahd Wackerman...

Haven't really met any "face to face". After the Roger Daltrey concert a couple of years ago I went home and looked up his drummer (Scott Devours) and "friended" him on facebook, his personal page, not a fan page. A few days later, I had posted some pics from the concert and then I noticed he was using one of my pics as his profile pic. I was so excited. I private messaged him and told him "Nice Pic" he messaged me back saying it was too good not to use and we've been FB buddies ever since. He's really down to earth and fun to talk to. Maybe one day I'll get to meet him in person.

Oh, and then there 's this guy Bermuda that sometimes talks to us little folk here, too :)

So I guess that's the closest I've come.

Got to be Bill Bruford's drum tech for a day when he came through Kurzweil in 1985. He was demoing triggering the K250 with his Simmons kit, back when he and Patrick Moraz were working on "Flags". Still have the hand-labeled cassette dub he gave me of some of the rough working tracks from that album, and it is one of my great prized possessions. That was one of the true perks of working there- getting to meet folks who came through. The fact that I was the only drummer in a company of keyboard players was bonus... (;-)

Ash Pearson (3 inches of Blood)

Bryan Newbury (Into Eternity)

John Longstreth (Origin)
^a couple times, most recently, bumped into him after his set:
me: oh hey, John! Great set
john: thanks
me: you're a very inspirational drummer
john: well thanks very much! I'm so sick of people telling me they're going to quit drumming after they see me.

Got Flo Mounier's autograph as well as the rest of Cryptopsy on a broken stick.

I met everyone in Arsis EXCEPT the drummer (who was Mike Van Dyne at the time)

A friend of mine (a PhD music student) went to a conference and was chatting with Bill Bruford all day. She didn't realise who he was until she went home and looked him up! I was gobsmacked but I to laugh. To be honest he was probably quite glad that she didn't know who he was and was speaking to him like a human being!

I took some lessons with Al Pahanish, the drummer from Powerman 5000. I also hung out with Adema when my band opened for them. I think the biggest thing I learned in general is that these guys are really good drummers, better than I would have thought. Even if the style of music they play doesn't showcase how much talent they have, they really do know their stuff.

Colin Woolway (used to play for Suzi Quatro). He's the Drumsense grade creator, he examined me once or twice and I've been at 2 or 3 drum clinics with him. Nice guy.

At one of those drum clinics was Steve White (Paul Weller, The Who) I didn't talk to him though, an opportunity missed!

Theres also been other opportunities to possibly talk to two more I can recall.

Jack Bevan (Foals) was playing support to Bloc Party in Dublin. This was before their first album even, he came into the crowd and chatted with one or two people I saw.

Ralph Rolle from Chic was hanging around chatting to a few after a gig but I had to catch the bus home.

John Fred Young of BLACK STONE CHERRY. The very most nicest guy I've ever met. I also met Chris Robertson, Jon Lawhon and Ben Wells of BLACK STONE CHERRY. They are all so great and nice people, my absolutly favorite band! Not just because their music fits my taste for about 192380192831092830%. It's because they are down to earth, talk to EVERY fan and they are, like I already said, the nicest guys on earth!

I also met Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden at one of his clinics here in southern Germany.

Dennis Chambers. I have a mutual friend so I've been to dinner with Dennis and a handful of other local drummers and on another occasion he autographed some sticks for my son who was thinking about becoming a drummer and was totally impressed with Dennis.

Hilary Jones who very kindly hooked me up with the engineer of her album so I could get some tips on how things were recorded. Tom Brechtlien who is friends with a bass player buddy of mine.

Around here, folks like Ron E Beck who took over for TOP when Garibaldi first left (would love to meet David as he's one of my heros) I've even sat in on Ron's kit as well as played guitar with him on other occasions. Also Billy Johnson who plays with Santana when Dennis isn't.

Most of the meet ups with famous players have been while hanging with folks I know who play in those other folks circles. Hanging around Yoshis after the show or something. You kind of get a pass from being just another fan when you are part of a group that the famous person is comfortable with. Occasionally I'll get a glance and someone will go "Oh, he's cool" and then the not for public conversations come out. There's kind of a code and if you ever repeated anything, much less put it on the internet, you'd be banned. I tend to just keep my mouth shut, follow the conversation, maybe ask an innocuous question or two to keep the conversation flowing, answer some question directed at me (someone may say that I have a particular piece of gear and then I'll get asked how I like it) simply and just enjoy the hang. Most of the folks I've met have been really cool when they are away from needing to keep up their public face. Just normal people who love to talk gear, tour stories, and things in general.

I have been lucky to meet a few drummers over the years in my endeavours:

Tommy Lee
Mike Bordin
Paul Bostoph
Abe Cunningham
Danny Carey
Mikkey Dee
John Dolmyan
Jason Bonham

To be able to stand on the stage, just feet away from Danny Carey during a performance? Just crazy. Couldn't tell if I was inspired or wanted to quit!!
Was also able to share lunch with Jason Bohnam. It was surreal to be talking to him about his dad, his dad's kits and his famous antics.

Wow, beers with bonzo. That's truly epic.

I worked for a local music mag for awhile and when my favorite drummers came to town I grabbed interviews with Mike Portnoy, Bill Bruford, Billy Cobham, and Mickey Hart.

Bruford was the most intense, since he got moody at times, but he spent an evening talking about working on Close to the Edge and really his whole career. He could tell I had been a lifetime student.
He is also somewhat of a prickly character, since I was a journalist and a drummer and an American. Three of probably his least favorite people on the planet, I hate to say.

Billy Cobham is built like a heavyweight fighter and his hand swallowed mine in a handshake. Hard to even call myself a drummer next to that guy. Seriously, he played with Miles when he was a teen. He is an individual that radiates dignity and talent.

Mickey Hart- Fantastically interesting man with a trace of arrogance. Best part was chatting with him about his friend Joseph Campbell.

Portnoy- Very cool guy who told me many things I did not know about DT. Also got to hang backstage with the band in DC, which was epic.

I dunno if it counts, I shook Weckl's hand after he'd just finished a show. To be honest, he was having an off night and definitely not playing to his standard form. Don't get me wrong... An off night for Dave is still far better than most of us but you could tell he just wasn't into it and he didn't go for a few of the big fills which caused the band to look up a bit. Anyway, I didn't take it personally when he just shook my hand and shrugged off.

Actually, the bass player was cookin as usual and I had fun watching him. That guy can get around a fretboard. No denying that fact.

I mixed a concert with Jojo Mayer on drums.
So I got to talk to him a little and thought he was a very nice guy.

The funny thing was, I had no idea about how famous he is and although I mentioned that I play drums as well, we didn't talk about drumming at all.
He actually might have enjoyed that for a change.

BTW fantastic band: Depart

That concert was absolutely mind blowing

I met and hung out with Mikkey Dee once when he came to a club I was playing at after a Motorhead show. He came up and played a couple of tunes with the band and we hung out and talked. Then he invited me to go out and grab a bite with him and a few guys from their opening act (forget who). He is a hero of mine from his King Diamond days so it was awesome. Great guy. Gave me a few drumming tips. A great experience.

I met a lot of drummers, but most of them are not that famous outside Europe/the Netherlands.

Apart from this guy, maybe you've heard from him:

He's playing at this band called "Weird Al" Yankovic and I've seen him around here ;-)

I've met Bermuda four times in 3 different countries. 2004 in USA, in 2010 in UK (above photo) and a few days later in the Netherlands.

I can't recall the name of the other drummer I've met with Bermuda in London, UK. I only remember that this drummer had something to do with Dire Straits ..

In the list of Dutch drummers who I've met:
- Cesar Zuiderwijk (drummer of Golden Earring)
- Hans Eijkenaar (one of the most asked session drummers in NL)
- Michael Schack (Roland E-drum endorser and general lovely guy)
- Lucas van Merwijk (Awesome Jazz and Latin drummer)
- Martîn Rongen (drummer of band called Rowwen Hèze)
