Can anyone tell me what the drum is mounted on the left. Not the rack tom, the other one! Thanks

cant completely tell .. but guess would be a snare or some sort of timbale/ really shallow high tuned tom

if the pic was a bit bigger or closer it'd be easier to see

Can't get it any bigger but if you search google for 'Sterling Campbell', I'm sure you'll find a better pic.

Are you talking about the snare that is next to the tom, thats all it is, a shallow snare. You can see the wires on the bottom.

It's rather strange he has the piccolo up top of the bass drum as well as a main snare and a side snare! A 3 snared drummer!

I can't see very clearly, I guess it mounted with RIM mounts, so it's simply fixed to the mount.

I have a a small Yamaha snare drum that has a tom mount (with a hole) on it... this one is different, it's a standard snare drum for what I can tell... albeit a smaller one.

Bit weird though right? But I suppose that's what he needs. If he needs 3 snares then he will use 3 snares.

I emailed Sterling via his fan site and asked him about this and yes he is using three snares. One primary, one side and a picollo as shown in the picture. He also drums for B52S where he uses two snares. He sometimes takes the snares of so they sound like toms.

Looks like a mounted snare or a really shallow tom. Very nice finish however.

Eric that was mind-blowing! You're such an inspiration. Certainly one of my major influences as a jazz drummer.
