Default Finally - a band!!

Whew! Man talk about relief. Following about 2 years of ups and downs, auditions that went south, auditioning with only ˝ the band there, auditioning with drunks, potheads, egomaniacs, primadonas, freaks, flakes, no talent individuals, etc, etc, etc – FINALLY – found a group of grownups who want nothing more than to play some decent music and have fun.

I posted a month or so ago about a contact a booking agent had given me that was looking for a drummer with a jazz kit who was looking to branch out with his duo partner and form a band. These two have been playing as an acoustic duo for 3 years and wanted to expand to capitalize on their duo success. We exchanged emails back and forth and had some things come up that never allowed us to come together. Until now. Life happens in other words.

It turned positive about 1 week ago when I receive his email telling me he found a 57 year old bassist who just moved back to the area from New Jersey and wanted to play music with “grownups”. He too has had enough of the BS.

We agreed on a date - last night around 7ish.

To make a long story short, all 4 of us came together last night for the first time and man, it clicked immediately! We played the first song and when it was done, all 4 of us looked at each other and realized we got something very positive. Man the energy in that room was fantastic!!

We played for about 2 hours and even collaborated on an original song the singer had written.

Plans are to rehearse on Monday nights and get 3 or 4 song together then gig at an open mic night first to see how it goes – work out any kinks - then work on longer set lists and start gigging once or twice a month, which is fine since all of us have day jobs and families.

These folks are all laid back, no drama, totally friendly folks who want nothing more than to play some good music and have a good time and maybe make some extra cheese. :)

Man I was going nuts trying to find a band to play with outside of my praise and worship band commitments.

Congrats rogue drummer! I would say that your persistance has paid off. I've read a lot of your posts about the disappointing experiences you've had and I've got to tell you some might have given up after all of that. Good on ya man! I hope you get many years of enjoyment from this new group.

Steve

Thanks LarryAce! Thanks everyone for your kind words.

This is one of the best parts of it. I'm no more than about 30 minutes away tops if I drive there from my house. Probably less if traffic is light.

When I come from my office in Dallas it's on a direct route. I work in Dallas but live in Fort Worth. The lady's house we will rehearse in - also the fine singer - lives in Arlington which is between Dallas and Fort Worth. (Arlington is also where Jerry Jones build JerryWorld, aka Cowboys Stadium.) On Mondays, I will load up my kit on Sunday night, drive to work in Dallas, then on my way home stop in Arlington and have band practice for a couple of hours, then drive on home. Her house is on a direct path from my office to my home, so I have to go that way anyway to drive home. It couldn't get any better!

What's funny is this group wants to get my wife involved also and have her play tamborine and shakers on several songs. It never hurts to have several women all dolled up and looking nice on stage at a gig, or so I've heard. Ha! It will be interesting to see how this turns out!

...congrats Rogue.

I hope this works out for all of you, and I hope that you keep this thread alive with updates as you progress.

I have all but given up lately, but things are looking up.

Once again, congrats.

Barry
