I could totally live with it if I never heard that "Get Lucky" Daft P song again.

For months on end, if I turned on the radio, I heard that song... It put me off radio for a long time, still don't listen that much.

While learning this tune just a little while ago, my son walks by and says "you know that song is one of the worst songs ever right?" I told him I had to learn it for a party and he said, "really, for real, it is one of the most hated songs out there" I said, what am I gonna do the guy hiring us wants to hear it. "I feel bad for you"

And Midnight at the Oasis was quirky enough to be cool.

The song gets some flak but it's FAR from the most hated. If people wanted to hear it, I'd play it in a heartbeat.

"Words" by F. R. David, somehow, although its an 80s song, its all over Malaysian radio.
Gotta be the most trivial song ever written.

What about "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt? Just a way overly sentimental song with a horrible chorus.

I think that the current trend of comedy-based songs is a headache. I wish the first time "What Does the Fox Say" was played could have been the last time it was heard on Earth.

Even then, I don't think it's the worst song ever, just really annoying.

This thread is definitely showing me the close-mindedness of many of our members.

In my opinion, a sign of a truly great musician is the ability to recognize the brilliance in any form of music.

I mean calling Roxette terrible and list them in the worst song thread makes me think! What defines
a bad song, let alone the worst? There must be some non-arguable factors
like a melody that doesn't work, really dull lyrics, no artistic value whatsoever, no expression.
This all doesn't work for i.e. Roxette IMO. You can like the music or not, but you have to
give them credit for writing lots of solid, catchy and perfectly functioning songs, if not some
evergreens. They are always nicely arranged, too, well thought out.
And this goes for a lot of music in this thread - as I said, people are just expressing their
dislikes for some songs or bands. This can't be a measure for worst song, though.

Ray-Dee-Oh..?

Isn't that one of those little 9 volt battery powered red boxes made in japan in the 70's?...I think they protrude one of those collapsible metal sticks like you see on some really really old cars....seems like a badly designed handle as it would bend when you wave the device around.

I hear it gives you cancer.

Reason I choose radio is because we like to think there is a standard songs and artists must meet, and it's slightly annoying when you know you could do better yourself.

Agreed, 30 seconds of it was too much, I need to wash my ears out with hot sauce...

You're right, and I know a lot of people who agree with you, including myself. However, sometimes I like other people playing their music. I won't say anything negative about them, it's just not my cup of tea.

Nothing wrong with being unpopular :)

That's ridiculous.. you can't change anyone's taste in music, and no one really cares what other people like. .. it's when there are factually incorrect opinions stated that it get's murky.. like "the number is growing'".. is this coming from your gut.. or do you have statistics to back it up? The Beatles numbers are staggering by comparison.

One of my favorite bands is/was Steely Dan, but non-musicians that don't appreciate the subtle, simple yet complex playing and arrangements and think it's like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard. Does anyone care? Not me!

Moxman,I saw the Dan a short time ago at the NYC Beacon Theatre, and they just killed it.Keith Carlok just amazes me with how effortless and fliud his playing is,not to mention...tastefull.I know Steely Dan ,is an aquired taste, but I'm glad I aquired it in the 70's,definately NOT the worst song ever. That would have to be baby baby by Justin Beeber....in fact, everything he's ever done...I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon, while having root canal ,without novacane, than listen to that noise.

Wow man takeing your ball and going home? You compared the Beatles to a boy band? And you think that is an astute observation? Then you insult anyone that likes them by calling them fan boys? Nobody takes issue when people say they don't like an artist or a genre of music. That is personal taste. But that is not what you did. So you heard it.

Otto, my man, you speak the truth. Cowbell man and others agree.

I think this may be the winner. To be fair, it's mainly the chorus that rankles. I remember being astonished at the crassness of it the first time I heard it.

And even more bizarre is the band didn't even write We Built This City. They abandon material they had written for songs written by outside songwriters.

What I find amazing is I've never met anyone who likes that song. It has gone down in history as one of the worse songs ever. Yet, the song was a #1 hit, and the album sold over a million copies.

Great list there!

The trouble with some of these hated songs is that they were cool/good/fun in their time.

In the list you linked, "Don't Worry Be Happy" gets a mention. That's unfair - it's a fun, infectious song and has the added cool/nerd factor that all the sounds you hear were done with the human voice.

There is one song on that list that really deserves a panning. Lady In Red, by Chris De Burgh. In the 70's he wrote songs that were about stuff. He wrote about strippers in speakeasies, the battle between good and evil recast as games of chance, Jesus as an astronaut, the Crusades.

And then...Lady In Red. Which is just ghastly. Shallow, trivial, dull and insipid. Blechhhh!

Agree, good list but Bobby McFerrin is a great talent https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shWrMVSj_hk

Also have no problem with Wham's Wake Me Up Before You Go Go which I find so bad it's good.

Just to a non pop tune out there - King Crimson's Lady of the Dancing Water from the Lizard album was hilariously bad.

I have an app for that.

All you have to do when you can't get a song out of your crawl....is think of a different song. Twist and Shout works for me. After a while it cancels the other song out.

No charge either Otto

Have you not been paying attention Larry?

It's this city!

Or maybe, misheard from another song, I think it's Cleveland.

'Cause the heart of rock 'n roll, the heart of rock 'n roll is in Cleveland!
