Default Drum Loops

If drum loops are used in studio recording, why we need a human drummer? All we need is a machine. I dont know whether Drum loops were used in "Billy Jean", but it was used in the song Dreams- Fleetwood Mac per Ken Callait- Producer of Rumours............just wondering.

Default Re: Drum Loops

Loops/sequences as the drum parts are effective in certain genres and songs, and live playing with a sequence is often the right vibe. It all depends, there aren't too many rules in music and a lot of artists/producers have been pushing boundaries as technology permits. Multitrack recording opened many creative doors, then early synths, then the Linndrum, then better synths, ProTools, cutting-edge (and obnoxious) plug-ins, and who knows what's next?

If a loop was used on Dreams, it would have been as a click - there's only live drums on that track, and the time is rock solid from beginning to end. Mick's good, but he's not that good!

Thanks Bermuda, I understand the use of loops here and there in a song based on certain genre but in "Dreams" , the whole song is the repetition of the 8 bar note...... I found that out recently .....

We made an eight-bar loop of Mick's playing, which created this fantastic, deep hypnotic effect. Its funny, but when people talk about the classic rhythm section of Mick Fleetwood and John McVie and they point to this one song, Im always amused that theyre talking about a drum loop.-- Ken Caillat
