Default Quick survey on your personal You Tube speeds

Are you satisfied with the speed of you YouTube plays? For months now I've had to wait way too long for a video to play, with all kinds of stops every few seconds. I am trying to get a larger picture if YT's servers are just bogging down or if it's local to me.

Our local speed fluctuates from crap to ultra crap, but we do live in a very rural area :(

Are you using FiOS?

Seems to be an issue between Verizon & Google(Youtube). Sadly, it affects more east coast people. (Hey! I'm in Bucks County too! *WAVES*)

Anyhow, I ended up having to block several IP addresses on my router, and using google's DNS settings, to get "OK" performance. Been pretty stable for a couple of months now.

I can give you instructions later tonight, if you want to give it a go.

Good luck!

No, I'm not happy. I end up downloading them and watching them locally instead.

Ironically though, if I stream YT through my blue ray onto my TV, it works much better than on my laptop. Even crazier, my blue ray connection is wireless and my laptop is almost always hardwired in.

Currently yes because being 'between connections' I'm using my phone as a router in a poor signal area.

Where I used to live, I never had any problems and I'm getting fibre connected next Friday so I can't anticipate there being any in the new place.

I haven't watched a YouTube advert in about two years. I block Flash and it automatically switches to HTML5.

I use FiOS...YT videos load quickly...the only "buffering" I have experienced is with a full-length version of a Tower of Power concert. Other than that...no complaints. I do feel sorry for you...I know what you're experiencing can be really annoying .

Larry, you didn't state, and no one has asked:

What's your download speed?

I'm currently at 1.5 Mbps (crappy, I know) at home and the buffering takes about 20 - 30 seconds - then I'm good to go. I can't do HD though.

When I'm at work (school) we have a 1Gbps hook up - really nice. I can do HD videos with no problem. I use Youtube a lot in my class. Lots of great videos to reinforce the science concepts being taught.

Usually pretty fast. When I'm at home, I listen to most of my music on YT, because I like live stuff a lot more than records, and I can watch the drummer that way =P.

It depends on a lot of things. YT has lots of servers, located in lots of places. Some of them have higher demand than others, or are simply not as fast. It likely also depends on the individual videos as well.

I suspect that their servers for advertisements are super computers, and the video servers are texas instruments calculators.

I've never had delayed uploads. But at work (hardwired) much faster than home (wireless).

I use AT&T U-verse which is not the fastest internet provider on the planet.
I see Flash Player issues a lot as well as delays in viewing vids.
I never watch vids at full speed.

I wish I knew how to get that trick to work. I disabled the flash plugin and videos simply won't play at all...

I read somewhere that flash players cause more browser crashes and lock-ups than all other causes. I'd certainly believe it.

Up to 480p is smooth and doesn't have to stop and buffer, vast majority of the time. HD has to buffer, you know the "I hope the slider doesn't catch up with the grey bar conundrum" :D

It's always 'just worked' on my Macs using Safari.

There is somewhere - deep in the YouTube settings - an option to join the HTML5 trial. When I browse in Chrome (just for the Hell of it) I get an extra button just below the video window that lets me choose which format to watch it in. Having an HTML5-compatible browser is a must. As far as I know all of the latest versions of the main browsers (Opera, Safari, Chrome, IE) are HTML5-compatible although there's still a debate going on about which video format to support.

Flash is a total pile. Security holes, bad performance, the lot. I have it on a click-to-use option only when it's totally necessary. Even on a lot of non-YouTube sites, I still have the option to watch in HTML5 if I choose.

The time it takes to load for me is around 15sec-20sec to load about 2 min video. Which is okay to me but I wish my net have faster upload speed.

Search for AdBlock Plus. It works for me, I'm on Google Chrome, Windows 7.

Adblock plus is more effective than adblock just to bear in mind.
