Default New drums shipment and storage

A few questions and thoughts about this:

1. On average how long do you think drums spend in boxes, warehouses and so forth before they get to the consumer?

2. Are drums that remain out of boxes on showroom floors or a drum shop's storage any better or worse off than those in a warehouse?

Any thoughts on this?

Iím always a bit concerned when a wooden instrument is built in one environment and shipped to another. Itís the (potentially huge) differences in temperature and humidity that worry me. That sort of thing can lead to plies coming apart and general warping.

With that in mind, it might be a good thing to have e.g. a Japanese-manufactured drum sit in its box for a while once it gets to e.g. North America. That would give it time to slowly adjust, as temp and humidity take a while to get through the packing material, so itís a slow, easy change in environment.

A situation to avoid: a drum manufactured in monsoon season in Asia and quickly shipped and uncrated in Arizona.

As for a kit thatís been sitting on a showroom floor for a while, at least you can examine everything easily.

In my opinion, there's no better way to buy a set of drums.

+1 Dennis!!

I have always had better luck buying off of the "showroom" floor.
