Kenny Buttrey, Blonde on Blonde and more

Hi folks, I’ve been listening to Dylan’s classic Blonde on Blonde album recently and noticing how much I enjoy the drums on this. Can’t quite put my finger on what it is I enjoy so much, obviously the song writing too but the overall sound of the album just sounds sublime (to my ears anyway!), and the drums are just grooving right through it, great stuff!

Seems the session drummer Kenny Buttrey was prolific back in the day. Anyone aware of any other good examples of his playing? I know he plays on another Dylan album Nashville Skyline, which I like too.

Thanks for bringing this up. This guy was a great drummer, very tasteful.
I hear Kenny allover this album. I think he also played on John Wesley Harding.
Check out his work on Lay Lady Lay, what Kenny says is his "proudest moment of all his drumming." Also a member of the Stray Gators so played on Neil Young's Harvest.
He was a leading Nashville drummer back in the day, on many records, the go-to guy.

He was in Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band for the 1978 live album, You Had to Be There. Didn't know he'd passed. Nuts.
