I enjoyed the 13 year old's playing more... I didn't quite understand what the girl was doing and it was somewhat repetitive, but she is still very good for her age though.

I still have to pick the 13 year old. His playing was tasteful and musical, and he shows a lot of talent and potential for the drums. This 14 year old girl, while she does have some talent, was very repetitive and relied on double bass far too much. There was nothing tasteful or well thought out about her playing IMO. She may be a great rock drummer as she gets older, but for the moment she didn't do anything spectacular.

She has many more videos on youtube. She just picked up a full endorsement from Vater sticks and Smith custom drums so she must be doing something right......

The fourteen year old won WFD for feet in the women division. She also songwritse. She has endorsements for axis pedals and vater sticks and other companies. But I would have to say the 13 year old is more musical

Damn he is good!!!!

Have to agree with the majority here....watched the first vid all the way through and 20 seconds into the girls one I was bored. Shes got skill alright but yeah, double bass pounding gets old quick!

Yea but they also make 13 year olds that sound like a broken metronome.

Tony Royster Jr. did have a killer beat going in 1992. I can only imagine what sort of talent these kids will have if they continue into their 40's.

I gotta say the 13 year old had the right idea, his video doesn't get boring like the 14 y/o girl's does.

13 year old's that are more musical than me. I feel down now.

Maybe so, but can't shake 'em like she did around the 3:07 mark!

I have an 8 yr oldlike this living in my house! My own son! Just cant get him to practice with a met or work on a specific piece so he is an incredible "drummer" but has yet to realize his musical side. For example, his teacher showed him swiss triplets (think thats what theyre called RRL or LLR) and first try he is playing them as fills over double bass 8ths, 16ths or triplets- first try. He has a touch I have never seen- the tips of his sticks just dance on his hats effortlessly.

Frustrating to see him not dig in to a music piece (god knows I have presented drumless tracks to him) when I know his potential but he's a kid and I need to let him discover it on his own..

Cant make them do these things or you risk making it feel like something they have to do instead of a journey of discovery for him. Amazing to seee any kid under 15 or so doing anything on such a high level. Sports, music, math, whatever. You can be sure there is some parent who has been nurturing every step of their development along the way.

The drum solos are a bit hard to watch tho- lets be honest. haha

Didn't watch the vid(s), but what became of that "great" 13-year old now that he's 18? Is he still playing? Still great? Has he discovered there are more gigs playing 2&4 than playing Chick Corea? :)

I think it's more amazing to find someone age 60+ who takes up drumming for the first time and becomes proficient.

It's easy to teach a young kid with a blank mind to play drums, speak a second language, swim the backstroke ... etc., etc.

Try to make it fun but stay out of the "do this" mode. Very hard for me, and most parents I would imagine.
