Drum Corps Training

One thing to keep in mind is that rudimental drumming is very hard to do well. So, most "corps" guys with a marching background don't even have it figured out. These days the top players are as loose as can possibly be (except for a few lines that hold on and stroke things out more than I'd like to see).

I get a lot of pro drumset players here in Nashville who come to me to work on their hands when they finally get brave enough to work on the rudiments. But, I set the rudiments aside and help them redefine their mechanics since they all drum too tight. I can actually only think of one student that I've ever had that I didn't need to loosen up, and he was a young drumline kid. Most see a tangible change in their kit drumming after 1-2 lessons.

Great technique teaches the body the hand motions necessary to play anything and everything using the path of least resistance. This way your body automatically knows exactly how to play the music you want to play.
