If you want, you can literally just use those "gaps for legs" or mounting brakets and have it upside down. I wouldn't reccomend it though. As long as your floor tom is no bigger than 16" then you can get a mounting system like the RIMS mount or a TAMA star-cast mount and hoop. If you're trying to achieve better resonance though then i'd reccomend you tried something like this:
As you can see it's a suspension mounting system, but it uses legs like a standard floor tom. Dunno how well it works though, it's just probably a bit easier to use than having it mounted to your cymbal stand, if you know what i mean.
