Stick Numbers: What Do They Mean?

I've got quite a few sets of sticks ranging from tree twigs to tree trunks. Seeing as how I've never actually bought my first set of sticks yet, I'm not really too familiar with the numbers on my sticks, or their term of definition. For example, I have a pair of Vater sticks that came with my set when I bought it, that have the number 3A stamped on them. Last night, after one of my Dad's shows, he gave me a set of Tommy Aldridge Pro Mark sticks with the number 2S on them. I personally favor heavier sticks over lighter sticks. What exactly do these numbers mean in terms of choosing the perfect stick to your liking? Your help is greatly appreciated.

2b= too big. Just kidding. Some people consider them huge while some consider them just right.

This post helped me so much, now I realize why my 7A sticks are breaking in 1 week, and I mean 2 pairs in 1 week lol. Thanks a lot guys this has helped a lot.
