Any serious swimmers here?

I get very serious when I'm swimming ... mainly to keep from drowning.

Dale W Miller (infrequently posting member) is a keen swimmer. He posted this pic of him in action in an ad ...

Sorry - I come from a family of Hawaiians who love to surf, but when I go in the water, I just sink to the bottom. This probably kept me behind the drumset longer than most!

I am an awful swimmer. When I was a kid, my parents would always take me to Raging Waters and I would love going on the water slides, but I would get too scared to drown. Needless to say, they were never really great experiences.

I'm very serious about lounging in the pool with a beer, doing occasional laps in-between.

HA!

I do love swimming in the summer though. But then fall comes around, and it's too expensive to keep the pool warm.

I started age group swimming when I was 14 and swam until i was 18. Then after the army stint I started swimming at the YMCA and formed a Masters Swim Club. Masters is for swimmers 25 and up and is sanctioned by the AAU. I swam competitvely until I was 37During that time I swam in many regional meets and 1 national meet. Lots of great swimmers over the age of 25. Our team with seven swimmers won a Regional meet competing against teams with many more swimmers.
I paid my way through college by working summer jobs as a pool manager and swimteam coach. Many many great memories there.

I worked as a fast pitch Softball umpire through college. It was high school girls so the scenery was a benefit!

I used to be, but I got out of shape after a quad accident three years ago... Never really picked up the training again after that. Now when I go swimming it's only frustrating because you loose power, endurance and technique ten times faster than in drumming as it seems, haha.

I should really get into it again, I really used to love it and I was quite serious about it :(

being from an island, I grew up swimming all over the place, although I dident do to much lap swimming, unless it was water pt back when I had JRA. I do love free diving, scuba ect. Right now i'm at college on the mainland, and dont go to the pool as much as I want to get some swimming in, its a really great way to keep in shape, good muscle work out + breath control/lung capacity.

In 2007 at age 46 my friend challenged me to compete in a Triathlon. I am in very good shape to begin with. I trained in the Atlantic Ocean and my pool in Miami Beach and did it! I did the swimming portion of the Triathlon 2 years in a row. No more. Simply because of swimming training time -vs- band rehearsal time!! I train everyday with weights, cycling, running etc...and I still do the Triathlon every year....just not the swim.....I get a swimmer and I bike then run.

I was the fastest of millions once but that was a long long time ago ; )

i used to be on a masters swim team for several years but i had to quit because my right shoulder started hurting from tendinitis. that affected my drumming too! my shoulder is better now that i don't swim so much anymore. i still love to surf and windsurf. those are fun ways to enjoy the water!
