What's the consensus on this head? Looks interesting.

Great head, It is dry and it will make a good pop.
The coating last and last.
I have been using them for years for moderate rock and country.
I use them mostly on my maple snares. I have used them on metal drums too.

Is it similar to say, an Evans HD Genera Dry?

I put that on my snare and I swear it was the easiest snare drum to mix as opposed to my recent album when I put a more "open" head on there...

I would sat that the Evans is a little higher or livelier, wetter sounding.
I'm just going by memory I haven't compared them next to each other.

OK, that's to be expected because Aquarians as a rule are generally "darker" than their competition, which is a good thing sometimes.

Thanks for the replies! If anyoen else wants to add anything, feel free :)

The Studio-X is also real nice on the snare.

i agree, i use studio x on both my 12 and 14 snares, they have a more wetter sound than the focus x but it allows me to add a studio ring when i need a dry sound, with the 2 snare set up and studio rings i can switch between 4 different snare sounds as needed depending on the song.
