Hi All

I'm new to thus forum and I've come on to see if anyone has had any difficulties with John's book and CD
I have listened continually to exercise 5 in this book on Comping Ex 1 and no matter how many times I slow it down the drum notation in the book doesn't appear to match what he's playing on the CD?
Has anyone else noticed this????

cheers
Derek

You know you might be right, I couldn't fine where he started the up tempo on that section, like to hear from some of the other drummers.

It does match exactly. He's swinging the rhythm, as described on p. 17, and is adding the time feel on the cymbal, hihats, and bass drum as shown on pp. 7-9 and 11. Are you sure you have the right track for the page you're on?

Only the comping is written out. You must play this against the jazz ride pattern and 2 and 4 with the left foot (or whatever the exercise is). The eighth notes are to be played swung. Read the instructions carefully. Everything is explained.
