Question about Evans G2 for snare...?

Can anyone tell me if there is a special G2 for snare batter heads, or is it the same one as for a 14" tom? I only ask because some retailers don't seem to include the G2 with their snare heads online.
 
Same as Emperors and Ambassadors, it's just the same head, coated. Same with G1s. EvansSpecialist, correct me if I'm wrong...?

You are correct. This confuses some people but there is only one coated G2; it can be used as a tom head or a snare head. They are the same design. We have a lot more specialty heads aside from the G1, G Plus and G2; Evans Snare Heads
 
I just bought a new 2 x 7.5 Evans ST Dry coated snare head and I love it. I had been using HD Dry but like this head much better. I had a G2 on for a while after talking it off of my floor tom and it worked well, but just not as dry.
 
FYI....I have been running a coated G2 on my snare for quite a while. I have a 6.5x14 Ludwig supra, and for that drum, the G2 is perfect.
 
My snare is an LM402 as well, so it should be great! I'm thinking a hazy 300 for the snare side also.
 
I normally use a Remo coated emperor over a snare side ambassador. I was having issues with the emps in that the coating comes off instantly, as well as they were inconsistent in sound. I switched to Evans coated G2 (basically the same head) and they have been great. A hazy 300 should sound fine on the 402. Good luck!
 
I have always been a G1/Ambassador guy when it comes to batter heads. Recently, though, I have come across some snares that I liked the sound of, only to realize that they had G2/Emperor batter heads.

The reason I ask, is that I just came into a Supraphonic 400, and I've NEVER liked the sound of them, but I like this one. It has an Emperor on it, but it also has COB rims. When I switched out the Emperor with an Ambassador, I got the same "Supraphonic" sound that I don't like. So, I know the head makes a difference, but I'm still kind of confused about what exactly is the difference that I'm hearing...how would YOU describe the difference?

Sorry to hijack the thread, BTW. Well, okay, not really...
 
Hmmm...that's a tough one considering that sound is subjective and we don't really know for sure what aspect of the sound you/we are referring to. At any rate, I'll offer this reply......I happen to love the sound of a well tuned supra (no offense) and I have played them, both 400's and 402's, with coated ambassadors and emperors. The biggest difference I can hear is that with an emperor, there is more midrange and meat and a fatter body of sound. The ambassador seems to bring out more of the aluminum crunchy high end that the supra is known for, if that makes sense. It seems to sound a little thinner and more "brittle" if you will, compared to the sound with the emperor. At least that's my take on it......

That's been my experience too. I tend to prefer the one-ply on the 400 and a two-ply on the 402, because I feel like it maximizes what each of those two drums do best.

Hmm...I prefer the one-ply on the 402 and the two-ply on this 400. I guess I'm trying to make up for the deficient qualities in each of the snares.

Different strokes for different drummers...
