I just purchased a Remo Ebony 14 inch snare head with a black dot underside.
I put it on my snare, tuned it to my liking, and it
ABSOLUTELY
SUCKS.
It sounds literally like pounding on the underside of a tin trash can.
So, I put a piece of duct tape at the top to dampen the resonating metallic thud, and it worked like a charm.
Now, I was told the black dot underside was going to cure that problem, but apparently not. My question is: is duct tape an acceptable means to dampen sound on such a "great" batter head?
