Hey folks, just uploaded a new lesson on 5/8 odd time drumming. You
can download the accompanying pdf:

5/8 Odd Time Drumming

I'd really like it if you guys could share some of your favorite tracks
in five (5/4, 5/8, etc) so that we can build up a little playlist to help everyone
get to grips with the feel. Any vibe, any style as long as it's in five.

I'll kick things off with...

5/4 - Gorillaz
15 Step - Radiohead
Morning Bell - Radiohead
Here Come The B***ards - Primus
Take Five - Dave Brubeck

Thank you kindly! ;-)

Thanks Toddy, very cool!

Whether the whole tune or only part of it is in 5, it still really
helps me and I'm sure most folks to feel the grouping and
the various stylistic options. We've got a nice mix there now
from different genres so thanks a million.

Here's a few more for anyone who's interested:

Living In The Past - Jethro Tull
Thrice - Hold Fast Hope
Last Night - Vanessa Hudgens (Yes, that's a pop tune in five!)

Yes that's true.
For practice purposes I opened up Tool - Vicarious & took the part from 4:52 (the 5/4 riff + bell) and copy/pasted it a few times in my DAW. I use it when I feel like practising 5/4 to a fun riff.

I also have various other riffs (minus drums) that I have collected/ripped from various songs, can post them up in a .zip sometime if people would be interested. No drum kit, just guitar/bass & sometimes a little percussion.

Time is Right by Manfred Mann's Earth Band has a few variations on 5 or 10 time, accents on 5, then 4 & 5:

Chris Slade on drums, later of ACDC. Doubt he ever played a 5/4 with them :)

Another one, one of the great fusion tunes IMO ... Jeff Beck's Diamond Dust: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0qO8h9d2x4

Thanks P, some more good uns their. I've got a great wee playlist
together now.

Toddy,

If you ever do decided to put those samples up there that would be awesome.
I'd definitely make good use of them! ;-)

I did a track on my solo album which is entirely in five (5/8 and 5/4) called Funf !!... if you go to CD Baby or iTunes you can check it out.

The verses contain some hi-hat phrasing in three over the fives too, so I'd be interested to see if you enjoy it!

Rich Kenyon "Funf"
Rush "Losing It" (Neil Peart)
The Damned "Gun Fury" (Rat Scabies)
Marillion "Incommunicado" (Ian Moseley)
Jeff Beal "The Watchers" (Vinnie Colaiuta)
Joe Satriani "Trundrumbalind" (Jeff Campitelli)
Joe Satriani "Echo" (Jonathan Mover - on the live version; it's like a 5/4 handbook!!)
Cardiacs "Day Is Gone" (Dominic Luckman)
