Some Ludwig blue/olive oyster porn ;)

Had some quiet time on my day off. After I did a bit of practicing and installing a new front reso head on my new Ludwig kit, I thought I'd experiment with a photography shallow depth of field shoot of the kit. I guess you could say I'm really pushing this color since its new. Many people who've seen it say its pretty striking. I hope my playing is doing it justice ;)

Enjoy!

I love the badges and the photos are quite good. I'm not crazy about the color scheme, but it is still a sweet rig. To my eye the streaked patterns like this take away from the cool geometric shapes of the drums....

Ludwigs in solid colors or the bicentennial look are what catch my eye..

So are you saying Ringo's black oyster didn't look good? This finish is another interpretation of the oyster motif. Good thing I didn't do psychedelic red or citrus mod, eh?

I tried solid colors, natural woods, colored and uncolored vistalites, white marine pearl. I'm gonna find a Nehru jacket to go with this new finish ;)

Oh, no, not really...but it's interesting you would point that out because I never could "wrap" my head around the aesthetic of the Ringo kit...of course, it's very subjective and my opinion is really worth nothing except to me.

I love the pics and I've been back looking at them several times...I have to admit it's growing on me, but to my eye it takes away from my enjoyment of the shapes and mechanics of the drums...and I wanted a ludwig keystone but that mint green and multicolor smear mix finish give me a hard time....and I have an orange sparkle kit already.

Just an opinion man....

Your photos does that wrap justice. Better than even Ludwig catalog shots. Birthday cake (ice cream that is).... nice Bo. Easy way to forget about those thermogloss Luds your got rid of.

Some people love Oyster finishes, some people don't. Some people love Sparkle finishes, some people don't. Some people like Mod finishes, some people don't. If you love that finish Bo, that's all that counts. Me, I love my White Cortex drums, some people don't. ;-p

I think your kit looks cool. What I would love to see on the bass drum is T-handles. Some people like them, some people don't. ;-)

I might do the t-handles still. It's the only thing the kit didn't have when I pulled the trigger. It's everything else I wanted, that's for sure. When I find a spare $100 lying around I'll get them.

I once had a white cortex mid-70s kit. I wish I would have put it on a lathe and thrown up on it, too! :p....

LOL

It definitely wouldn't be my first pick. But the photos look good, and the more you look at it, the less outlandish the finish seems.

I take no offense. I'm cool with all opinions. There are certainly things I don't like that are only important to me too. My very first kit was a gold sparkle Slingerland, and then I went solid black and maybe that cured me of solids and sparkles back then (we're talking pre-1978) because when I revisited solid black, that kit ended up with my little nephew at my moms house. And I didn't re-visit any kind of sparkle although I thought I wanted to. I thought I'd like a natural wood to grow old with but it bored me, and under colored stage lighting all kinds of weird hues happen.

I just like where I'm at right now - and I can always try something new down the road (as I've been doing now for the last couple of years).

Thanks Andy! I might approach Ludwig to shoot their next catalog ;)

+1 on the Indeed, why not?
Pretty sweet kit! This is one of those "the finish looks better in person" like a couple others, but your pics show it very nicely. They have one at the shop and it's striking, and eye catching.

I would be the same way with a Natural Maple kit. I always liked them as a kid, but, I know I'd get tired of it.
I just got my Solid Black kit spruced up, and I love how it looks and sounds, but if I sold a kit to get a different one, it would be the one to go.
I wouldn't sell the Black Glass, or the Red Sparkle. Those look great everywhere, and under all different types of lighting.

Even though it's a new kit, for some strange reason the pictures in this thread really hit the 'nostalgia button' for me.

I have a nagging feeling I should get some type of Ludwig kit.
