DW 7000 vs DW 5000

So I've been debating over the past week if I should buy the DW 5000 single bass drum pedal. I've been playing with a DW 7000 double bass pedal for 2 years now, and for the majority of this year alone I've been playing with single bass drum techniques and hihat techniques a lot more the the double bass. I hardly play double bass drum patterns. However I didn't know how much of a step up it actually is from the 7000 to the 5000. Should I just use the 7000 as a single and save the money or is the 5000 really worth the money? Thanks for the feed back.

Essentially the difference is the heel plate hinge bearing and the shape of the cam...oh, and the 5000 has red u-joints.

My opinion, the 5000 is not much of an upgrade from what you have. You can buy the pieces from a DW dealer, install them yourself, and have a 5000 for about $75.

Aka I could just buy 2 of the DW 5000 hinges and have a DW 5000 double bass pedal for way less?

That's the biggest difference. There are some minor little things, but a ball bearing heel plate hinge in the 5000 vice just a hinge in the 7000/3000 is the biggest difference. Unless you're playing some serious speed, I doubt your playing suffers from the difference.

The DW5000 hinges are $35 each.

The 5000 also has a wider footboard. A buddy of mine has 7000s and I have 5000s, and as nice as the 7000s are, I still prefer the 5000. It's a preference thing, if you like the feel of the 7000 more, rock on.

Actually I'm pretty sure it doesn't work. I owned a DW 7000, and I liked it. One day my hinge snapped off though, and I looked to replace it with a DW 5000 hinge, but on a few different websites I read that the 5000 hinge won't fit on the 7000 plate. So I ended up buying a DW 5000 AD3, and I think it rocks! My kick is faster than it was before, I'm hitting quick doubles and triplets pretty easily. I'd say it ultimately comes down to technique, but for comfort and ease the DW 5000 is a keeper.
