Default Placing of drums in a room

Okay, for my current setup, i have my drums in my basement. They are next to a wall, with my back against the wall when i play. Is this okay, or should i move them in the middle of the room? The reason i ask is because it seems like too much sound is reflecting off the wall behind me, making the drums almost unbearably loud with my Vic Firth headphones. What do you think?

If you can put them in the middle, do it. This will help out a great deal from all those waves bouncing off the walls.

my kit sounds far better in the middle of a room, especially my 16 and 18 inch floors. they get a bit shy when placed close to a wall!

Thanks for the replies, i moved it in the center of the room and it's better.

What you don't want to do is to play your kit into a wall. This is probably the worse scenario.
