Default 28" Bass Drum Project

I got the itch for a YUUUUGE bass drum so I bought a 28x14 pearl marcher from a pawn shop for $199.

It fit in the back seat of my commuter car.

Here it is at home.

Fortunately the bearing edges were in perfect shape.

I first sanded the hoops and sprayed them with gloss black lacquer.

Now the hard part. I marked and drilled the shell for these massive Drum Factory Direct spurs.

Here they are installed...

The kids even did a little inspection...

I couldn't find an ebony PS3 reso head, so I bought an ambassador and attached a mouse pad I cut into strips using spray adhesive.

All done.

Here is a shot for size perspective. The snare pictured is a 14x9.5.

Great project and wonderful job!

The only thing that seems odd to me is that you went out of your way to go super big, and then dampened it.... Why not just go with it?

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go install some Michelin Whisper-ride tires on my monster truck.

Well, I got my first 24" not long ago (after 30 years playing a 20"). And I definitely understand why -- to be practically useful in the real world.

Thanks! You should hear it in person. All that little pillow does is shorten the sustain a little bit. It is LOUD.

I have been meaning to get a camera that records good live audio. I can say that unlike a lot of 28 inchers on youtube, this one does not sound like you are kicking the side of a dryer.

The ergonomics of this kind of set up are awesome. It is nice how easy it is to go from the rack to the floor tom.
