Exercise "stone killer"

I had the great experience of studying with Joe Morello. I can tell you that this exercise does a few things:

  • It allows you to focus on each hand individually

  • It builds endurance

  • It results in speed and control

Stone believed that controlled practice combined with endurance will result in speed. Don't try to start at a fast tempo. Start at a reasonable tempo and stop at the slightest feeling of tension. Keep a record of tempos. You should see an improvement in a matter of weeks.
