Fellow tub thumpers, got a question regarding vintage ludwig kits: three ply mahogany/poplar/mahogany kits with sound rings: what series were they? More specifically, what series were the 3 ply maple/poplar/maple with sound rings? I'd like to purchase a set of the latter but don't know what "line" I'm looking for. Also, did ludwig ever make a straight 3 ply maple shell with sound rings? I've played both of the other 3 play kits and preferred the maple configuration, but they both had the same badges with no other discernable labels or identification.

Back then, they didn't really have different lines with different shells like they do now.

Model names more had to do with the sizes and configurations, while sharing the same shell design.

A few exceptions were the Ludwig Standards, which were a lower line designed to compete with low cost drums from Asia. And the rare Jazzette kit that was all Mahogany.
