Default New Musical Discoveries

Please use this thread to list any new music you think the forum members may like.

Be sure to list the Group, Album, and Song. Try to keep thing positives. Bashing someones entry, because you don't like, it will be deleted. If you don't like it, Move on. The OP is not required to explain why they like it, just that is is new, and interesting to them.

Sorry-please delete after clarification....but I have a question.

Does the music linked to need to be "new" according to when it was written (example-within the last five years....?) or when it was heard?

Sincerely...

And thanks.

I just discovered Danielle Nicole. Great singer and hot tunes. Came out in 2015. (OMG Where has she been all my life)
I practice drums to her stuff. Good solid hard hitting drum parts.

It's hard to pick one or two songs. Try "Lord I Just Can't Keep from Crying". https://youtu.be/4Z6nSOJiw_0

Or "Someday You Might Change Your mind". https://youtu.be/An-JJxfbYac

Listen to all of her stuff and pick your favorites.

I saw Danielle Nicole in Ottawa a few years ago as part of Trampled Under Foot. They opened for George Thorogood.
She does have strong lungs.
The first track Hollywood Jim listed reminds me a bit Delta Moon's track House of Dolls.
I'd post the link, but my tech skills are a big fat ZEERO !

I like a lot of ethnic folk music, but they wouldn't play my wedding. Notice the floor tom rim. I guess altered to play the brushes.

Different. (good different, to me) :-)

Just one thing, the initial visual impact was mildly distracting.

Since many links will probably lead to youtube videos, I highly recommend not actually watching them but just listening (minimise the web window, or just look away).

Like I always say to my son, music is listened to with ears, not with eyes.

Seems like I should follow my own advice, duh!

Edit: my colleague and I now have this on at work!

Jenny and the Mexicats and Lake Street Dive are my newest discoveries. Also a local band called Cobrahawk from Ellensburg, WA - solid pop-punk and a great work ethic. Check 'em out.

Here we go... new to me in the last few months

Artist: Nossa
Song: Mas Que Nada

Artist: Grace
Song: You Don't Own Me (contemporary cover of Lesly Gore)
Genre: Pop

Her voice just grabs you... and how she inteprets this classic... she makes it her own.

This won't be new to most, but the Tiny Desk series is a great way to check out some things you may not have heard before or wouldn't normally be your style.

Speaking of Tiny Desk, here's something new I discovered -- King Krule
He's definitely an acquired taste in a Tom Waits kind of way but the drummer is quite good

I found a rap that I really like! And just check out the percussion!

And then YT suggested this to me (I no longer clear the browsing history for YT because it keeps throwing these gems at me!):

In the wake of recent forum discussions regarding "artistry" and music quality I find this band really quite phenomenal.

Thrash/Black Metal:

Black Fast - Cloak of Lies

These kids from St. Louis, MO popped up on my Spotify playlist a couple of months ago, and I dug 'em. They came through town and played one of my stomping grounds, so I checked them out. They were one of the better metal bands I've seen, I was just floored by how kinetic and monolithic they sounded. That prompted me to dig into their most recent album, which is also crushing.

Just a real-deal, straight ahead, uncompromising metal band.

Now hear me out... I know this is not technically new music... but gawdam, this recent discovery, is new music for me... of Cutting Crew doing their hit (I Just) Died In Your Arms is phenomenal. Some youngsters may have never heard of Cutting Crew... No not 2 Live Crew

It starts out with an extended David Gimour-ish guitar solo... then rolls into a acoustic version, then they kick into a blistering full blown take.

One of the best 80's acts. We perform this song c/w a shortened version of this keys / guitar intro :)

Last week i saw these guys, with an absolutely wonderful drummer..

They are called Black Midi and i recommend everyone who gets the chance to go see them..

And i also predict that we will see the name Morgan Simpson within now and 5 years featured in all the drumming magazines you can think about..

Ah yeah, Morgan Simpson, excellent player. I remember he won the UK young drummer of the year about 4 years ago. I just watched a live performance of these guys. Simpson with his shirt off looks and has the energy of a young Thomas Pridgen.

Not new but new to me. Cuban son music and Cape Verdian morna, especially the Legend that is Cesaria Evora. It's made me desperate to get a set of congas. The trouble is, I don't have room for them!
