Years ago, I found an orphaned pair of mid-70's Gretsch toms. A 13x9 and a 16x16, walnut gloss finish. The floor tom was in like-new condition, the rack tom had a few unfortunate modifications, but was still close to perfect. They are fabulous drums, sound huge, easy to tune, and look gorgeous.
I needed a bass and snare drum to go with them, so when I had the money, I ordered an Ayotte 18x16 and a 14x6 snare, and got the color almost matched, close enough.
Looking back, I'm wondering why I didn't order a Gretsch USA custom bass and snare instead of Ayotte. I guess I just didn't think that was possible, or Ayotte was the first custom drum company that came to my mind. Either way, that decision still wakes me up at night. Maybe one day I'll spend a lot of money and make two kits out of one.

I think it looks fine. Peace and goodwill.

The chrome drum? No, that's a PDP 10" Mini Timbale.

I thought that's what it was but I couldn't see the snare or snare stand.

That vintage cream oyster still remains my favorite Brooklyn color. Sweetness!

- 12/14/18 Gretsch USA Custom Curly Millenium Maple, but pictured here with my 20"x14" Broadkaster in the same MM finish
- New 14x5 Broadkaster snare, also in MM finish

I really like the hybrid combo of USA Custom toms and Broadkaster kick and snare. I find the BK kick and snare have a shorter, warmer more vintage tone , while the USA toms sing more than the BK.
