You mean other than the fact it looks like Homer Simpson making a fist while wearing one of those weird multi-finger rings?

Drum makers should offer drum badge options (they all got them) or a badge designer app-so you pick and put the ones you choose on and can change them if you like. That would be sweet-gimmicky but sweet.

I think the worst badge is one I don't own and really want.

It was a prior Mapex badge I was referring to in my tale. It was a different style.

I think the whole thing is funny, I get a kick out of the importance placed on them.

My Catalina Maple kit had the word "Gretsch" on it 41 times from the factory. How insecure we're they to need it that many times on a 7 piece kit?

No a big fan of Pearl Reference and Reference Pure badges.

For me, they just look so bland and uninspiring.

Big logos on cymbals. Zildjian and Sabian seem to be the worst culprits.

Not overly fussed by badges on drums as I can't see them when I'm playing. Cymbals though I can see and nobody else can, it's like thanks for reminding me it's an A or a K, I would never have guessed!!!

The oversized remo badge on the newer heads is a bit pointless. Any drummer can tell the difference between a Remo and Evans badge.

I personally hate how big the Remo logo has become, but that Sakae logo is absolutely awful.

Perhaps a terrible badge is part of the secret formula for success in drum making?

After all, I can think of at least one company that had classy badges and dissapeared:

There's a good reason for that. No matter how you mount the tom, a badge can be facing forward.

An awesome drum and Steve Ferrone is an awesome drummer. Buy the drum, unscrew the badge from the inside and send it to me. Thanks

Only if connects the handle bar assembly to the front tire.

I don't mind admitting I like DW Drums (both the gear and the company -I've had really good experiences with them).

But as much as I like DW, I'm bothered by the DW-styling on the lugs of this snare drum. I had hoped Gretsch would have been left alone, and I guess because of economics, style-creep was only a matter of time.

Those lugs came way before DW acquired Gretsch. They're the same ones used on the now-defunct New Classics line, which lasted from approximately 2005 to 2014 (I'm not certain about those years, but they were somewhere around that timeframe).

They do resemble the DW lugs though.

Wow, that's interesting. I can't imagine someone at Gretsch back then not bringing up the similarity and vetoing the lug design.

Thanks for the clarification.

Yamaha was building musical instruments long before they got into Motorsports. They started making pianos in 1887.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why people care about things like badges. To me that's like not buying a hammer because I don't like the way "stanley" is stamped on the side.

Badges are not that important, but, lugs and badges are part of the design of a drum kit otherwise they're all just round shells with chrome hoops.

Badges
Lugs
Hoops

Two of those things impact the sound of the drum, the un-important one does not.

It's always a valid choice to go form over function in terms of priority... But I'd take an "ugly badge" great sounding kit any day. I simply don't care.

Has anyone here indicated that they wouldn't buy a great-sounding kit because they didn't like the badges? Not that I could see. And I don't think that's the point of this thread. It's not "I passed on XYZ kit because I didn't like the badges"... it's more "What badges do I find unattractive?" (regardless of whether or not they bought the kit).

Like it or not, aesthetics do play a role in nearly everything we purchase, from drums to smartphones and plenty more.
