Forum shenanigans - LDS 2014 - Photo's & video

Here's some photo's of forum members generally misbehaving, & of course, the (ahem) official forum photo featuring Gavin & Todd. Only one slight issue with the official forum photo - a lack of forum members present :( There were plenty of members there, just spread around the two floors of the event!

TBH, It was never going to be easy to nail down a time in advance, but through their extra busy schedules, Todd & Gavin made it to the stand, & we took the photo with whoever was there at the time (including one non forum member, & another "associate" member)

Somewhat embarrassingly, I was facing the back wall of the show stand having a crafty toke on my E-cigarrette thingy when all I heard (through the noise) was andrew - ANDREW! I turned around, & there was Gavin & Todd!

Anyhow, a huge thank you Gavin & Todd. That was an impressive effort given your schedule, & greatly appreciated by all :)

The after show party was a story all of it's own. Pub full of talented drummers, and the funk jam band of your dreams (Yolanda Charles on bass, Rob Harris (Jamiroquai) on guitar, & the incredible Nicholas Viccaro brought in specially from Paris for the gig inn drums). Absolutely no pressure then!!!!! I was persuaded (much against my better judgement) to step up this year, & straight after Nicholas too (dammit). David (Floegel) mustered the bottle to get up for a turn too (& made a fine job of it), as well as Madge's drum teacher, Liam (another fine player). Thankfully , all on stage were very supportive of this very much out of his depth drummer.

Anyhow, here's the video. I'm placed at the end (for good reason). As a side note, I was very pleased with the new Tour series kit we used for the gig. It did exactly what it was designed to do, & some! Universally praised by all who played the kit :)

The Video: Some truly great playing :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7b2EDV6QT30&feature=youtu.be

I have video of Michele's fabulous jazz Tap Project acoustic stage performance & also some great photo's & video shot on the Guru show stand. I'll post them up in a separate thread, hopefully tomorrow :) One very very tired Andy -

Some lovely looking ladies (and gents!) I'm sorry I couldn't attend, especially as I really do love visiting London.

Bermuda

It was, without doubt, the best day of my drumming life so far. Can't thank you enough, Andy xxxxxxxxx

ETA I was absolutely gobsmacked by the Tour, by the way, as was Liam. He couldn't tell how good it sounded when he played it on the Guru stand, but when he heard it at the party afterwards he was hugely impressed. I think I know what's on his Christmas list ;)

That was a great day.

Spent the Friday before gigging in London and got back to Hampshire in the early hours of Saturday morning. Managed a handful of hours sleep before grabbing a coffee and a shower before jumping on the train back to the capital, shortly after I found myself on the madness of the LDS.

Oh the noise!!

After playing a horror of a drum kit on Friday evening It was so nice seeing so many great kits on display. After last year the format of two floors was a lot better as there was more space. A welcomed addition.

While I am mentioning kits I have to mention the Walnut Guru kit, oh.my.word.....

The day was a bit of a blur. I think I mainly walked around with a smile on my face just taking it all in before seeing a few clinics.

Despite having visions of buying another new snare and being kicked out of the house by the fiancé I bought just two DW5000 spare pedal springs a new pair of brushes.

Managed to make it to the Guru stand just as the official forum photo was taken but was hesitant to jump in as I hadn't said hello to anyone as yet. I blame the lack of sleep, being shy and the slight hangover for me being hesitant.

I think the only acoustic drums I actually played were the mouth-watering selection of Guru Snares. Thinking about it Guru was the only acoustic drums I actually hit throughout the whole day and Andy there was one hell of a selection that was being talked about from random people I met.

Managed to grab a coffee with Bob from the Global Drum Network podcast for a catch up then nipped over to the Guru Stand to finally say my hellos to everyone, late afternoon and well overdue shortly before the end of the show and the walk to the party with a Guru Kit.

Then it was the after show party, really enjoyed spending more time with you all this year.

As the beers went down the more I talked (sorry for chewing your ear off Madge at the table and Henri outside in smokers corner which seemed to encourage a few road rage instances from the cars/buses, to much amusement/bemusement)

Andy, once again thank you for everything. For anyone reading this who hasn't met him he is one of the most outgoing men you can ever hope to meet, a gent. A real pleasure to be invited into socialising with you all.

I have some photos of Andy playing at the aftershow that I’ll upload ASAP. Like I said at the time, some great and solid playing which you'll see from Henri's footage.

Finally, on a personal note I actually saw Yolanda Charles doing her thing up close and in person.

Wow

Really great year, roll on 2015 already. It's got a lot to beat : )

Great pictures, Andy!
It was an awesome time.

L to R: Alex (Amedia Cymbals), some bloke (think he might be a drummer), Andy, some other bloke who might be a drummer too, dear David Flögel, me, StaggerLee, Liam.

Juniper, you didn't chew my ear off, it was great talking to you and you're a lovely guy. You must be: Mr Madge said so too!

What a drum solo! I think this guy could keep time even if a hand grenade went off next to him.

Only checked this out on a laptop, but nice drum sound too.

Wow
yes, she's just wonderful :) I managed to catch a couple of in song solo runs from her in the video.

I was happy too :) That gig was a great test. Getting big tone to the back of a long & thin packed pub isn't easy. It's designed to do exactly that. Probably the most enjoyable piece of R&D I've done in a while ;)

Great pictures, Andy!
It was an awesome time.
Thank you. I'm sorry I couldn't spend more time talking to you. I'm crazy busy at this event. One of these days, I'll attend a show as a visitor :)

Yes, Nicolas is one hell of a player. Those musicians who know the real talents on the circuit rate him as right up there with the very best, & I mean mean globally! You can imagine how I felt going on immediately after him. As soon as other drummers were told Nicolas was house band drummer, the typical reaction was oh s*^T! I was chatting with Robin Guy (not short of a few chops himself). After hearing Nicolas, he asked me if I was getting up for a turn. I said yes. He replied "really? f*£k that!

Thanks. always nice to put a name to a face.

So, nowhere in the thread here do I see David's famous shorts. I'll just imagine that he had them on under the much more boring pants.

As it stands, I can only give this thread a 9/10, and the missing point is just for the lack of the shorts. As for the rest of the scoring, let's just say it's a good thing you guys had that bass player to make you look good.

It's possible that Liam was wearing them: some sort of underwear exchange had taken place that morning, or so I was told. I didn't consider it appropriate to investigate further.

Only one slight issue with the official forum photo - a lack of forum members present...

Yeah... so sorry 'bout that Andy, we checked the Guru stand, since Gavin & Todd were not there, we went to the toilet... when we came back some 4 - 5 minutes later, the forum photoshoot was done... damn!

David (Floegel) mustered the bottle to get up for a turn too (& made a fine job of it), as well as Madge's drum teacher, Liam (another fine player).

Yes they both did an amazing performance :)

I was insisting to David to go and play by giving him some signs, but he would shake his head negatively to me... so, during one of the rare Yolanda music break, I asked her to take David with her when she returned to the "stage"...

Kinda the same happen with Liam, but I didn't wanted to bother Yolanda again, so I ask Andy to ask Yolanda to let Liam have a go...

... and I'm glad I did :)

I have video of Michele's fabulous jazz Tap Project acoustic stage performance...

Looking forward to watch this wonderful performance again :)

I really hope you'll make it sometime in the future, it would be a great pleasure to meet you Jon.

Oh the noise!!

Tell me about it...

err... ??? I thought it was just one day...

Just kidding of course :)

As the beers went down the more I talked (sorry for chewing your ear off Madge at the table and Henri outside in smokers corner which seemed to encourage a few road rage instances from the cars/buses, to much amusement/bemusement)

No John, it was a pleasure to chat with you :)

Yes! Andy did really, really well considering the "no pressure" situation :)

In fact he did sooo much better than my footage... he was grooving so much that I had to dance, hence the shaking footage... so sorry Andy, I'll stand still the next time :(

Finally, on a personal note I actually saw Yolanda Charles doing her thing up close and in person.

Yes, she's so amazing :)

It's possible that Liam was wearing them: some sort of underwear exchange had taken place that morning...

I knew it...

Yeah, you got that right! ;)

Yes, I didn't want David or Liam to pass up on a special video opportunity. I mean, c'mon, how often do you get to jam with the likes of Yolanda Charles & Rob Harris!

Bless you for that! It's going to be something Liam tells his grandchildren about :) Meant a hell of a lot to me too.

Right, a quick summarise of this wonderful weekend for me and my Daughter Emma...

It was Emma's first LDS and I was worried that she'll find all that drumming stuff a bit boring after a few hours... but no! She thoroughly enjoyed herself througout the weekend, she enjoyed it so much that she's thinking on starting drumming, she loved it beyond my expectations :)

We arrived at the LDS at 3:30pm on the Friday where we met Andy and Alex.

We had a meal in the evening, just the 4 of us, then Andy, Emma and myself went to the Albion pub for a few drinks, we've met a handful of drummers and chatted 'til half past midnight.

The Saturday morning's highlight was the Michele Drees Jazz Tap Project on the acoustic stage, it was so good to chat with Michele, she's such an amazing person and, of course, an amazing drummer.

The Saturday's afternoon highlight was the Keith Carlock performance on the main stage.

The Saturday evening was dedicated to the after party jam at the Albion pub, after we transported the magnificent new Guru Tour Series to the pub, we had a smashing time listening, watching and cheering an amazing gig.

About midnight, we hauled the Guru Tour Series kit to Matt's hotel room at the Hilton (special thanks to Matt for providing shelter for Andy's new born baby), we then had a few more drinks in the Hilton bar.

Sunday morning, we've met at the Hilton to carry the Guru Tour kit back to the LDS to be set up again for the last day of the show.

Sunday afternoon highlight was the Chris Johnson performance on the main stage, jeez, that man can groove... Emma's favorite of the show :)

At 6:00pm, the show was over, we've hanged around to give a hand to take the Guru stand down and about 7:15pm we had to go (unfortunately).

We went down the lift with Michele Drees who asked how we would go to Euston Station and kindly and generously offered to drive us to the station.

The big miss this year was Dean, he couldn't make it to the show due to illness, but he was present throughout the wonderful kits he crafted, we wish him a speedy recovery.

It was a pleasure to meet and chat with all of you:

Alex and Carol

Madge, Mr Madge, mini-Madge and Liam

David Floegel

John (Juniper)

Laura (aka Duncan, aka BacteriumFendYoke)

Matt Cowley

Aaron Graham

WaitForItDrummer

Robin Guy

Nick Mason

Michele Drees

Nicolas Viccaro and Celine (Nicolas' girlfriend and singer song writer)

Matt (from the hilton hotel)

... and of course, the main man... Andy, thank you so much again my friend, it was an epic weekend :)

Sorry if I missed anybody, but you know who you are... :)

Here's a few pics:

Me behind the Guru In-Tense kit. (phew, what a sound...)

Hey all, I was only there on Saturday but had an amazing day. The highlight for me was Eric Harland's set, and getting to meet new faces as well as some I haven't seen for ages. Another highlight was getting to try out a beautiful Craviotto snare, which was quite hard to hear as it was so loud round about - then I realised it was Eric Harland tearing up the Sakae drum kit next to me.. the man's got chops!!

Nice to finally meet you and your accompanying Guru snares Andy, those are some amazing quality drums!!

I look distinctly less drunk in that picture than I imagined I would...result!
Haha - funny I saw your photo there Dave and thought the same thing!! Glad I managed to avoid the cameras.
