Hey guys,

I have recently launched a web shop for the sale of drumsticks.

It's not a regular shop but something I think is pretty new:
Buy drumsticks in a subscription!

You have the option to choose between different subscriptions:
3 pairs of drumsticks
4 pairs of drumsticks
5 pairs of drumsticks

You will receive the chosen amount of drumsticks every four months by mail free of charge!

The subscription lasts for 1 year and will renew automatically if you don't cancel.
1 month before your subscription renews you will receive an email to remind you.


So, what do you think?
I've talked to some drummer friends yet and they all said they'd really like that idea.
Anyhow, I would like to hear your opinion!

seems like a cool idea

but I don't like buying sticks online in general and prefer to physically touch the stick before I exchange loot for it

just about every time I have purchased sticks online at least 2 of the 10 sticks were wobblers and the companies make the exchange process just enough of a pain in the ass to make me not want to bother

so.... cool idea but I will continue to buy my sticks hands on
 
Yea, I'm the same as Tony in that regard. I don't play cheap sticks, and knowing how imperfect wood can be, I like to check them out before I buy. I'm even weird enough to look at the grain in the tip and tell myself I can intuit if the tip will chip off 5 minutes into playing.
 
I kind of have to agree with Tony and the good doctor.I'm kind of old school,and I have to roll that stick on a sales counter,to see if it's straight or not.That just comes with years of trial and error buying online,and just taking for granted that the stick is straight and balanced.

But I do wish you sucess with your venture.Cheers

I think it's a great idea David :) of course, it will always suit some players & not others. Ref: Tony's & Doc's straightness concerns, perhaps that's something you can factor in with your supplier arrangement to cover returns, & you roll test each pair before they go out? Extra work, but it means peace of mind for a greater number of players. Worth looking into :)

Straightness, pitch paired which most times they aren't and you need to go through them and match them and also weight pairing. Nothing worse then picking up a pair of sticks and one is definately lighter then the other. You need those three things to be in synch to have a decent pair of sticks. Those three key details are very hard to acquire when shopping onliine.

That's exactly what I'm looking for.

I actually never thought about the pitch-problem as I have never had any problems with that. But that's a good point!

I wasn't quite sure if I'd put it up here but I thought I should give it a shot :p
But yes, it is of course some kind of advertising but I'm honestly interested in the opinions.

If 8 of 10 (or 800 of 1000) said they wouldn't buy a "subscription" there would be no sense to even try it.

I agree with BFY. Members who share their expertise on the forum and contribute to discussions should also be able to 'inform' other members about their business ideas - as long as there is a reasonable balance between the two. It's all learning.

Unfortunately I don't get through enough sticks to need a subscription (not a heavy hitter I guess and mine seem to last years...) - but I bet a lot of people do. Have you considered contacting schools / music schools?

& to my mind, completely agreeable to seek opinions. After all, isn't part of the forum's unwritten remit to help out other drummers? I often come here to get advice & canvass opinions on all manner of drum related things because I value the depth of knowledge & cross section of drumming community here. I have a clear conscience doing this because I'm here 10 times more often giving back in terms of advice & assistance to others.

Additionally, if something goes well, I like to share my joy just like any other member here, & if something goes badly, I share that pain too. If I do something I think is of general interest, I share that too, & hopefully that contributes to the rich mix of elements on this forum. The day I'm told I've got that balance wrong, or I'm just not welcome here, then I'll depart graciously.

There's a huge difference between a long term contributing member seeking some help/support & some drop & go promo poster who's only post history (if any) is exclusively related to their product or service.

Members like Andy make such a huge contribution to the quality of information and sense of community on this forum - We are all lucky to have them :)

I'm thinking about adding single orders, too. But I think there's no reason at all for someone to order sticks from a foreign country unless it's REALLY cheap
 
I buy a lot of sticks online, mostly online rather than in store actually.

It's partly because I can't rely on my local shop to have the particular type of stick I want. I often don't buy your average 5A/5B model, but signature sticks and more obscure models from Vater or Vic Firth.

There is an element of trial and error to some of the sticks I buy.

I like the idea of your site David. I registered my email on the site, I'd consider it in the future as long as the postage/ airmail price didn't cancel out any discount you would get from buying sticks in a bundle deal. Best of luck with the business!
