EC2....my review and questions

Stopped on the way home at my local music store (normally hit sam ash but didn't have time tonight). Anyway, was after some coated G2s for my YMCA. They only had 10" and 16", no 12". However, they had clear EC2s in stock. I was thinking "oh no...don't ruin great drums with pre-muffled heads" but I figured what the heck I'll try 'em. I am pleasantly surprised! They sound really warm and punchy. Just slightly less resonate than the G2s. My question is about playing out with these heads. Normally, just the kick drum is miked at the clubs we play. Any of you use these unmiked? Do they project well enough thru rock music? Thanks...

They will do just fine. Have had these heads on my kit for over a year now. No dents, a few scratches and they still sound great.

Yes they do, but as always, you need to tune them up to sing nicely.

I agree with Wave. They need to tuned a little higher than you'd think to cut through. I ran a set on a DW kit a couple of years ago. Out front they had lots of punch and depth.

80ish on a drum dial for toms.
