Vintage Hoop Sizes

Hey, just out of curiosity. I have a 1930s Boosey & Hawkes 14x5 snare, and I tried to take off the single flange hoops and put them on my 20 ply bubinga snare but for some reason they didnt fit. I can put normal drum heads on the Boosey with tripple flange, so its not the heads.... so did they make them smaller back then or something?

My old beater kit has weird sizes. To put a head on the 12 inch tom I have to wedge it on with quite a bit of force just to get it to meet the bearing edge. In other words, the shell is wider than it should be for a 12. That kit has no badges, and I don’t know its age, but I’m guessing it’s early 1970s, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all to find that the older the drum, the less standard the size.
