Paul or Bon? Bit of a difference there! How did you get to be called Bon?

For some reason I find the cockroach portrait suits the anagram Anon La Ply really well - like some sinister insectile gangster :) Love to say it was by design but it was a fluke.

I am in the process of setting up my kit in the house since I won't be playing with the band until June, just building up day by day. First I'll start with brushes and some of Andrew's ride cymbal exercises and gradually creep up the volume till I get to sticks. Dad is going to find it exciting haha

I'm surprised you never heard of Bon Jonham, he was introduced in a thread a few months ago, strangely enough by MZ himself :))

Shame you can't play with the BM's and it's cool that you'll have the kit at home, it will feel different than the pad that's for sure, good luck with the practice :)

Mmmmh... we are back to the same initial kinda situtation as before, Anon has just got 59 posts, but her title has changed to Renegade... so it was all a dream I guess *sigh*...

...well life goes on... nevermind.

I still love Anon, Polly and Grea... that, luckily enough, hasn't changed.

Henri, guess whose idea it was to revert the counters and change "First Lady" to "Renegade"? Bernhard is a kind man!

Remember, there are still the screenshots to show that at one stage Anon was posting > 2000 posts a day :)

At this stage it's brushes. If I start with sticks he'll make a fuss so I'll soften him up like the mythical frog in boiling water. I could do with some ... brushing up on my brushwork anyway. Actually, I'd like to use them a whole lot more, especially after listening to this video - drummer with just snare, bass and hats and he sounds great http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jcmn8xTi8aQ

Bon Jonham was a joke between Henri and I from awhile back, so now he calls me Bon.

Yes, your avatar is perfect now. The First Lady title is too elegant for an Anon La Ply....

Would be fitting for Pollyanna though.

Bon Jonham ... how? Why?

Yeah, First Lady is too elegant and grand for me, no matter what UN I had. Can't live up to it. I'm a ratbag, always have been, always will be, so all is well :)

Mad I think your thread backfired.

Now Polly won't post under her own name, and her avatar keeps getting high jacked by other people, and now the whole balance of the drummer world forum is off-kilter.

Bernhard is a kind man indeed ...however, my little finger tells me it's not Bernhard's idea, it's probably from a green faced vampire wearing glasses IMO :)

Yes, cool, but don't forget about using those brushing skills to dust the mantlepiece!

I've only watched about 15 minutes of the video, yes he's very good, I'll watch some more when I have time.

I agree with the status title Grea, Renegade is more you, ...but not with the post counts, now I have fallen back into the bowells of hell, I'm doomed for eternity, I have failed my destiny and I will be haunted by remorse and shame... my one and only hope to redeem myself is in the power of the Mighty Pollyanna...

Yes Ian, you're right about Polly not posting anymore under her own name, at least not as we know her with that instantly recognizable avatar, however, this tribute/party thread in her honour has nothing to do with it, if I didn't uploaded it, we would be in the exact same scenario, worst maybe, still wondering if she has left the forum, Pollyanna do not want to cross the milestone, but this thread has served a purpose to discuss this very topic, although it was not it's intended purpose, it was initially there to celebrate, congratulate and give tribute to the imput and drumming of this very special woman, if Polly had no trouble to "go the distance", the thread would have had a completely different vibe.

But it's not a bad thing, on the contrary, it's interesting to see and share all opinions and views, certainely for Grea point of view.

Jokes and punts asides, I have no problem with Polly not wanting to go further than 9 999 posts, she still post on the forum, that the crux of the matter to me... I can still enjoy Grea's imputs within this wonderful place that DW is.

Interestingly I think Grea, in her own way, celebrated this forum & her friendships here - and also in a funny way honored Herni's monster effort by NOT crossing 10,000.

Its her angular Aussie-rules tribute to Drummerworld.. its what Pollyanna would do - not accept glorious felicitation but refuse it with grace, humor and a lightness of touch.

I think she'd just rather be a regular gal - As would I.

This thread just keeps getting better.

A ratbag, huh? If that's anything like a scoundrel, then I can see your point. It would feel uncomfortable having such a grand title. I'm a recovering troll myself. I've been trolling the internet for years. Not a mean troll, but an entertaining one. That's how Bon Jonham got started...just one of my many trollish comments meant for humor's sake.

Still taking it slow, although I had a fun yesterday with a sound reduction pad on snare, just playing goofy variations on the Sing Swing Sing intro.

Hehe, I think you're apeing Flying High (or one of those films) where the love interest says to Leslie Neilsen, "I'm the happiest girl in the world" and Leslie replied, "Me too".

Really, the my reasons are simple. 10,000 is a bit embarrassing. As some have suggested, if I spent even half that time practising I'd be making serious headway. It's like telling people you're 49 year after year.

Thing is, I'm learning that your true self will out, no matter what you do. Whether I like it or not, by nature I'm more of a writer than a drummer, something I've always wanted more than writing but have less natural ability. I tried writing but I found it too insular (even for me).

I'm caught between nature, upbringing and my druthers.

You're welcome.

...Our DW gentleman keeps changing his avatar probably more often than he changes his shirts, lol, some are very good indeed (the avatars that is, not sure about the shirts), in this case Bon wasn't commenting on the JB avatar, it was a 3D cube GIF turning around with Ian's pictures all over it :)

So here we are, one week later to the exact day…

This thread certainly had it’s fair share of twists and turns, excitements, mysteries, emotions, anagrams, humour, congratulations, emotional blackmails, thanks, stats & numbers, members title changes, new and borrowed avatars and much much more…

The participation within this tribute has been fantastic, it just shows how much we love and care for the star of this special award retrospective, namely Grea, AKA Pollyanna & Anon La Ply.

I would like to thank you all again in regard to the compliment you’ve made of the OP here on this thread and by PM (you know who you are), it was a labour of love, inspirations, admiration and respect, but also tremendous fun to make, so it means a lot to me :)

A special thank you to you Grea, you’re such a good friend, you definitely rock my little world :)

You appointed me as your agent on the 8th of march 2012 and I will try to make you proud, I promise, in the meantime, I’m honoured to carry the title :)

Last but certainely not least, thank you Bernhard, for your support and your help, DW rules.

Cheers everyone.

Henri

Just when I thought this thread was dead, I got to thinking, Polly is not coming back... ...as Polly, anyway. What if there is no Polly? What if there never was a Polly? I mean, how many of you have actually met her. She is or at least professes to be from Australia after all, which she calls Oz. What if she is from the real Oz? (Toto, were not in Kansas anymore.) What, instead of her being abducted by aliens, she is the alien. I mean, that new avatar she uses looks like something from "Alien" or "Men in Black" after all. And, if anyone has actually met her, she could be a shape shifter and her old avatar could be what she wants us to think she looks like. How many drummer have met her never to come back? You can't prove it hasn't happened after all. It is impossible to prove a negative.

(Note to self, got to stop smoking that stuff.)

If... if is a good word, hypothetically...

What if I was Pollyanna, it would be the biggest ego trip ever displayed on a public forum.

What if Polyanna was a state of mind, not a person, mo2vation wouldn't be leaving.

What if Abe (aydee) was actually a gal, would she rather bee a regular guy or a wasp?

What if Pollyanna never joined this forum, would DrumEatDrum still be an active member?

What if Zickos never touched that stuff, I wouldn't be writing this.

What if Deathmetalconga's drum hero was Ringo Starr, would Pollyanna think Ringo's pretty average and not very adequate?

What if Mad About Drums couldn't stand Pollyanna, who would have done this tribute thread?

If any drummer(s) have met Pollyanna the alien and never came back, how come Bermuda's still alive and well.

What if Pollyanna never post the "mythic" 10 000 post, will I remain doomed for eternity?

What if Pollyanna posted the "mythic" 10 000 post, would I be redeemed and fulfilled my destiny?

What if LukeSnyder went to Oz to meet Anon La Ply, would this happen to him...

LOL ... how much commission am I paying you, Henri? It's probably not enough :) You are remarkably kind. If karma is real then I'm building up a debt!

Am I real? Good question. Bermuda and Wy Yung are the only witnesses. But ... can they be believed? What if they're not real either?? :)

Not sure how many are interested but at least some of you will know that my life has been on hold caring for Dad (89 yrs old) for the last 6 months. Here's an update from a more lucid diary entry than usual yesterday:
15 May 12

Complained of feeling even sicker than usual. He could barely talk and he gasped, “Hospital ... I’m finished”. I checked to make sure that he was sure he wanted to do it - going to casualty is not pleasant. I called his doc and he agreed. Ambulance took him to RNSH.

16 May 12

Visited him in hospital today. Call later on from was from a hospital physio. She suggested a walking frame, which I'd been suggesting to him for weeks since his mobility reduced.

Then there was a call from a dietician. Because Dad’s so skinny I was worried that she might think I was neglecting him, whereas it’s been a struggle to get him to eat. There was a testing quality to the call - she's probably seen a lot so I guess it's understandable.

The way she spoke gave the impression “We’ll feed him up with supplements and he’ll be back at home soon". Disturbing. I don’t want to do this any more – the daily shit cleaning, seeing the horrible phlegm spitting into his spit bucket all the time and cleaning it out as the horrible ooze sticks to the bucket, drying him (including his dingly danglies) after the shower and dressing him. Having to check the bathroom floor, shower recess and seat whenever I needed the bathroom. Having to close the place up against what dad thinks is cold while the mould problem still hasn't been fixed [it's already given me asthma]. Feeling his humiliation as I make him wear his protective pants. The daily hot washes. Always have to push to get him to eat, to take tablets, to change PJs and dressing gown ...

Thankfully later on a doctor called and she said he had significant dementia and should go from hospital to nursing care rather than back home. Hallelujah! Someone finally gets it! I've spent months trying to line up a dementia test because that seemed to be one of his biggest probs.

It seems that the dementia is most likely behind his loss of appetite and also the phlegm because he can’t control those muscles, so food fragments go down the wrong way. An ultrasound showed that he was not constipated so the loss of control is due to the dementia. That’s why everything I tried failed. I just thought I was a lousy nurse. His usual doc didn’t pick any of this up, which doesn’t surprise me.

The hospital doc asked if Dad had been assessed and I said we’d tried twice before but neither assessments were finalised because of his stated refusal at the time to go to a nursing home. She suggested that he was not capable of making that decision any more and we would have to make the decision for him. In the last week he agreed that he should be in nursing care but he forgets everything and could easily protest again at any time.

I am incredibly relieved. I was sooo dreading that seemingly inevitable horrible day when I’d find him collapsed again … and then this poor frail confused little old man would be wheeled off to the harsh chaos of the casualty ward etc. That was the worst part - never knowing when it could strike.

By acting before anything major we instead had two genial paramedics calmly help him to the ambulance. When I visited he was in a nice, quiet warm part of the hospital resting relatively comfortably in bed.

Everyone is better off.
Still lots to do with visits and dealing with professional people and trying to get this house more liveable after decades of neglect (and dad blocking changes because he didn't want anything to change and had become afraid to spend money).

So my appearances here may become a bit more haphazard ... I'm off to the hospital to say hi to him now. Band practice tonight - yay! I've sat out for a few weeks due to dad's health issues. One door closes and ...

It's a bad vibe Polly La Ply.....I don't envy you at all. I watched my wife's family go through a similar process with her mother over the last 4 or 5 years. I remember the difficulty to get her into a home all too well. Very slow and agonising decline. It's a tragic reminder of just how unfair life really is. Here's hoping a solid jam session will lift your spirits.....even if only for a few hours.

Grea:

I have read your real life message. It's heart devastating and profound, regarding the on-going health issues with your Dad. Nevertheless, your lowly and strong dedication to him...is a great example of compassion and self-sacrificing.

A big hug for you!

Ian

Pol,

My sympathies for you and your father. I can imagine how hard it is. I lost my 83 year old aunt this past week after a long series of illnesses that had her in and out of the hospital, rehab care, home and finally hospice. My uncle is doing reasonably well but misses her terribly. She for the last 61 years was the light of his life. Know that my thoughts are with you and I wish the best for both you and your father.

Grea,

You have given more than your share and it's time to allow others to take some of the burden. You are amazing and have done more for your father than most people I know would attempt for their loved ones. Your sacrifices will pay off with a return of all the good karma you deserve, I'm sure of it. I know there's still a hard road ahead but please remember to leave time for yourself and get back to those things that make you happy and bring you peace. You deserve nothing less. :)

Happy Drumming!

MaryO

I hope things get better for you, Grea, from here on. I would get that mold taken care of asap. It's gotta be sad seeing what your father is going through and dealing with it.
