Everyone in DT and the two Mikes just did what they thought was best at the time. Mike P expresses some regrets.

Fair nuff and I don't think MP should shut up about it - he was no doubt asked a question and he answered honestly. I prefer that to him putting on a brave face to be "professional" or whatever - let's have the real deal.

If anyone finds it irritating there are billions of other pages indexed by Google to choose from ... personally, I quite enjoy DT's little sagas :)

Go to the 2:00 mark of this video to get Mangini's take on Portnoy's reaction.

Sounds like a great weekend Abe! How did you get through it without being totally consumed by the latest MP, MM, DT twist?

I think DT is just going the media whore route, don't get me wrong, everything before systematic chaos is groundbreaking, and as musicians they succeed me hypertrophicly, but its just a quagmire of drama with those guys now.

I wouldn't be surprised if Portnoy ends back up in dream theater a few months prior to a new release, after all, 25 years of work and friendship? Let's grow up a bit, its not infidelity

Yeah, apparently Mike P wanted to take a hiatus just after one of the biggest Dream Theater releases yet and the rest of the band didn't want to. Fair enough to be honest, if I went away to play with another band for a few months and then ask my band to go on hiatus after one so I could play in more side projects then I could see me and my hypothetical band parting ways. In finishing I agree with you guys who say he should be quiet. He left them.

You know how most of us have stuff we'll do in practice, but we don't try it in a performance because we're not sure we can pull it off?

Seeing Mangini play this type of thing effortlessly and then thinking that he's the same way is borderline terrifying.

I say good for Mangini. Obviously he's a monster on the drums, but he really is one heck of a great guy.
I was never a big DT fan, but I'll check them out now. I started watching that 3 part video...never cared before. Saw a clip of when they called him for the gig and decided to watch all of it.

As for MP, well, how else would he feel? I'm sure he maybe just expected things to go the way he wanted, but they didn't.
He's not hurting for gig's that's for sure.

Listening to DT has been/is also painful for me.

Yeah, I agree.

But I suppose that's why he can play that way. No matter what he accomplishes, he's always feeling he's not there yet.

This reminds me of all the drama between Jorge Posada and the NY Yankees.
