Well hell if it isnt totally ruining your life than whats the problem? Can't drummers be who they want to be just like everyone else? Look at a mathematician for example they are constantly thinking about math, relating to the world around them to equations and turning real life problems into math equations, look at sport jocks they play sports for the fame the glory the popularity, well the majority I know do, and no one has a problem with them completely wasting their life doing what they like to do, but for no particular reason that would be relevant to benefiting the world, so why can't we have our peace as well? Think about it, and you'll find the answer.

Never too obsessed with drums. Ever. Ever. *twitches nervously*

That is, unless you do nothing BUT drums! Do you have any other interests/hobbies? Sports? Movies? Friends? The outdoors? If you answered no, then we have a problem...Life is about balance. An obsession is unhealthy, an infatuation is normal.

I usually go through my phases. Since marching season is over I don't have to worry about playing my quads. Now that concert season is in I can focus on that. Theres always an occasional jazz chart that I need a bit more look at or a new groove I want to copy. Then there's the hobby of airsofting which I recently got into. I used to think I was crazy obsessed but that has passed as I'm sure it will with you sometime.

and if i have nothing to do I try and get free stuff.

Try to find another, but cheaper hobby. I am into photography and usually spend the weekends, the nice ones down here in miserable Florida, wandering the out doors. I have about 6400 photos on my hard drive. If all else fails, I take photos of my drums. LOL

yeah, this site is great for quinching that drum bug...and practice fills the rest...I have always been a drummer at heart that is why I finally took it up...there is nothing wrong with that need for some rythmic tapping throughout the day and getting on one's kit and playing away, or sitting at the pad and practicing a solo or two! I love the drum stuff, and my family does not mind this new passion so long as I do not drop off on my family duties and wake the little fella at night...LOL

Enjoy it...always no one can take it from us...that is great!

I use to feel like that. Back when i would post here like 15-20 times daily. But i realized there is nothing wrong with that. I still probably would do it, but with school and work and all my extra curriculars, i dont have nearly as much time to do it.

You cant be too obsessed with drums.

I feel your pain.
Teachers yell at me because I set up my different books in order to deepest pitch, then solo out with my hands. I know it sounds stupid, but I can't help it.

When I hit the turn indicator in my car, I'm hammering out a rhythm on the steering wheel in time.

The other day I was washing the stainless salad bowl and I couldn't help but to flip it over and check out the tone. I found the sweet spot!

My legs bounce when I'm seated. Pens, pencils and utensils are all percussion instruments, to me.

Once I was changing the water bottle on the cooler at work and I started jamming on flat bottom of the empty. What a sound!

Am I too obsessed with drums?

I used to own a Mazda 323, the car was great lasted over 225,000 miles and then I sold it to a friend for $1.00. I replaced the clutch only after 200,000 miles. But the greatest thing about the car was the cover over the steering wheel had an incredible hollow sound similar to a conga drum. Also the car had an unusually large steering wheel for such a small car that allowed my hands to play the steering wheel cover while driving. I have not found another car that sounded so good.

I was addicted to drumming. I feel it is like a meditation, and the addiction is possibly the same that runners feel.

I was working one time the late night shift at a 7-11 many years ago. I brought a pair of drum sticks and practice pad to let the night go easier. I found that if you hit the 2 liter pepsi bottles with the sticks the right way, they sound great. I got fired from doing that when they found out. But, that was many years ago.

I would guess it's bad only if it becomes an unhealthy obsession that has a negative affect on other aspects of your life. If it doesn't then don't sweat it

Sounds a bit like Chris Adler. All he ever does is drum and look after his cat!

As for me i really should probably practice more. I love music and it occupies the majority of my free thoughts. I do have other things i do too, such as cars and computing. In lessons i've actually been practising doubles and triples with pens on the desks in school.

lol at the chris adler cat comment. he really doesn't have any interest other than his band. not even doing drum solos.

I've tried several times to get the gravity blast(? i think that's what its called jojo mayer just called it a 1 handed roll in his dvd) technique down in my biology class. The only other thing I can do in that class is stare at the 2 lab rats in their cage. I also like to play neat hip hop beats and see if anyone notices....they never do. Not even if I'm rocking out on demo kit at Guitar center....lol.

Far Beyond Driven or Beyond The Realms...........

Obsession: an unhealthy and compulsive preoccupation with something (drums) or someone (drummer).
