Yeah, I know. The first time I heard the song, it was the Toto version! :) But I thought it would be misleading if wrote "Toto - Bodhisattva".

Right now my favourites are any Big Band Jazz, Motley Crue, Rush, and the complete soundtrack from the movie Rent.

lately:

quiet riot- the wild and the young, metal health
queensryche- walk in the shadows, empire, silent lucidity
dream theater- you not me, erotomania (what i can play of it)
la guns- never enough, ballad of jane
cinderella- gypsy road
motley crue- wildside
steelheart- never let you go

as you can see, for covers i dig 80's hair metal a bit...working on some rush classics, but am limited on equipment...pedals aren't quite responsive enough, and the tom range is limited, sounds a little monotonous...but i'm trying, lol...

my hands-down favorite is molly hatchet's version of "dreams i'll never see", the old allman bros tune...also, gator country, whiskey man....

Galactic by the String Cheese Incident. Funny, I was looking for Stanton Moore's band Galactic, and came across the string cheese song...what a great tune.

1. Aja - Steve Gadd
2. Streets - Marco Minnemann A phenominal piece of music
3. Eulogy - Tool Danny Carry
4. 777 - Thomas Lang
5. Seven Days, Sting - Vinnie Coliauta (i have noticed this has been quite popular in the post) the reason i like it is the most virtuistic piece of drumming i have ever heard, works on so many different levels, vinnie coliauta is a complete genius. Anyone else would think this track is in four!

So many more songs but at the moment these are my top five

is not enough but :

1. Seven Days (Sting) : Vinnie C The professor's professor ! Technical virtuosity taste musicality and incredible playing in one track !!!
2. Aja (Stelly Dan) : Steve Gadd There is a before and after this track in the history of drumming !!!
3. Two Step (Dave Matthews Band) : Carter Beauford, especially live in Central Park is just incredible !
4. Natural Science (Rush) : Neail Peart The different time signatures, the fills he does at the end ! Oh My !
5. In My Time Of Dying (led Zep) : John Bohnam : The bass drum orgy with a single pedal !!!
6. Seasons in The Abyss (Slayer) : Dave Lombardo. Those long long tom rolls !!!
7. Lines in The Sand (Dream Theater) : Mike Portnoy. The way he orchestrates his parts is just perfect. The main groove with hi hat is almost funky and the Keyboard/Drum duel at the end of the song is amazing !!!
8. Burn (Deep Purple) : Ian Paice just Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuurns on this one !

I could add tons of other classic drums tracks that I love :

Blind Korn David Silveria : The crowd goes nuts just with this classic ride intro ! R u Ready ???
Most of Tool Songs are amazing ! I could not pick a specific one.
A Gene Hoglan track probably from the Death Symbolic Album
The first track of Dimmu Borgir Misantropia Something feat Nicholas Barker
Unas The Slayer of Goods Nile Tony Laureano
War Pigs Balck Sabbath Bill Ward is so creative on this one

and

Any Dennis Chambers beat !!!!

5. Ticket To Ride ...Ringo Tied with "Up ON Cripple Creek" Levon Helm
4. If Six Was Nine ...Mitch Mitchell
3. When The Levee Breaks ..You Know Who
2. Jupiter's Child... Jerry Edmonton with Steppenwolf
1. Blues Part II...Bobby Columby with BS&T

For me, Bobby Columby doesn't get enought credit. I think he woulkd have been more prolific had he worked on many different projects as Gadd did..

I often play Tool - Lateralus to warm up... love the song! I also play a lot of songs of a norwegian band called bigbang!! wich you all by the way should check out! Really great band. The drummer is a master groovemachine and looks like animal from muppet show!! check 'em out if you haven't done it already...

me and my guitarist usually start with hot for teacher or voodoo child. We usually use these songs because we are very comfortable playing them. I think thats the best thing to do, warm up with a song that you know completely, dont get frustrated in the first 10 minutes of playing. Get warmed up first.

Duncan Sheik's Barely Breathing is great for just getting in a drumming mood

and then get into some Peter Gabriel (Manu Katche)

and then keep progressing ... play along to Aja

and then go crazy!

For People who arent so sure about themselves on fills and stuff i would say Either
D'yer Maker or The Ocean by Led Zeppelin.

But for people like me who think that is not enough of a warm up i would say Red Barchetta by Rush or Limelight.
