:D It kinda goes with the territory. Besides it'd have to be a killer deal on a full kit to cover shipping costs. :D

Just done 30 minutes of alternating eight on a hand at 140bpm and single stroke roll at 90bpm. I have a satisfying burn in my forearms. :)

This thread put a smile on my face. Very cool to see someone so motivated w/ a new hobby/passion.

That Stage Custom kit is a SWEET kit and will serve you well for many years. I LOVE the Honey Amber finish and you received some great advice on used cymbals and getting an instructor soon,

Keep grooving and keep having fun!

I starting drumming in 1980 after hearing "The Spirit of Radio" and quickly became obsessed w/ Neil Peart, not realizing at the time that there were tens of thousands of kids doing the same thing around the world! Got busy with life during my 20's/30's and didn't play much but have picked it back up since I bought a Roland TD-12 e-kit and practice every day.

Will be seeing Rush in Chicago this June for the 28th time.

Mid-line kits have really stepped up in terms of quality, so kits like the Stage Custom and Tama Silverstar are great kits for the value and many guys that have top-of-the-line kits from Yamaha and Tama, prefer to play out with the mid-line kits w/out worry of damage to their high-priced kits. Mapex Meridian is another one to consider.

Super-jealous that you are going to Istanbul. That is any drummer's dream!

Not sure if it was already mentioned, but a great book to start out with is George Stone's Stick Control. Really helps to develop both hands and can be used for years. All you need are a practice pad and a metronome.

Here is a PDF file of the book to get you started, but definitely go buy a copy as well: http://infomuz.ru/upload/iblock/44f/...62b11d5272.pdf

Accents and Rebounds by Stone is the follow up book and another great resource:

Once again thanks for the input and the links. Much appreciated.

I too am a big Rush fan and Spirt of Radio is an all time favourite.

For unknown reasons I've only seen them once, on the Clockwork Angels tour in Manchester. My wife and I looked at each other at the end of the show and asked ourselves why had we never seen them before? They were awesome!

At present I'm not sure the R40 tour is coming to the UK but, if it does, you can bet we shall see them again.

Maybe these guys will make it to England. Phenomenal Rush tribute band. Check out the medley video:

Love this thread. I am more insired by a 53 year old learning to play drums than any famous rock/jazz drummer in the news. I am 57 years old and just started to learn piano. It never too late! And so much fun! In fact, us older guys/gals have an advantage in terms of having music listening experiences over many years. I'm inspired by you! Cheers, dan

They should perform their own stuff. They're really good. But they look piss all like Rush. The bassist looks like a builder (or almost every 45 year old punk rocker in the history of the genre) and the drummer's singing which makes no sense whatsoever.

And they're wearing f'king overalls....makes em look the evil competitor of Kwik Fit...

Thanks DPT.

Oh yes, I didn't spot the overalls! Wonder what spawned that idea?

Still, to give them credit, if you closed your eyes...

Mind you I'd give my eye teeth to play an instrument, any one of them, as well as they can.

I'm more concerned with how they execute the music than mirroring the visual of the band, regardless of which member handles the vocals. Singing like Geddy while executing Neil's drum parts is damn impressive.

You clearly missed the point of the coveralls and the framed artwork. It's a nod to the Moving Pictures album cover.

Oh yea, give up the idea of a tribute band looking like the real thing. Enjoy the sounds.

It's weird.

Mind, every tribute band I've ever come across are slightly oddball. It may go with the territory. Like those ventriloquists who become attached to their dolls

We played a gig with a Sex Pistols tribute band. The guy pretended to be Johnny Rotten both during, but also around the gig. At one point I told him to stop acting like an arsehole...the act was over.

'Sid Vicious' was comical though. Taught trumpet part time at a Junior School. PUNK AS F***

I get the overalls thing...but even that's weird. They're sort trying to look like Rush but look frig all like them.

Hell...those guys can do what they want. Good luck to them. I'm only joshing around.

I don't think he sounded much like Geddy either for the record.

We're pretty much the same age, & I first saw them in 1979 with Max Webster supporting (check them out too :)

A huge welcome to the forum :)

Is there a rumour circulating that they are calling it a day ??

Shame if so...they're a staple in my car and Peart is a real hero of mine, but mainly from a perspective a guy overcoming adversity than as a drummer, even though he's one of the best.
