Vic Firth corpmaster ME3's

Fat and long. Should be here today. I usually use 5B's or Pro-mark 808's in oak. I have a set of Aaron Spears (Vic Firth), they're okay but a bit light.

I need some heft for the bounce stuff I'm working up. I seriously doubt these will replace the 808's on the kit but for the pad they should help.

Replied to Jim via private message.

I used headphones at rehearsal but want to use ear buds. I will be trying a very basic set of ear buds this weekend at a gig. I am not looking for complete noise cancelling buds since I don't want to block all stage discussions. So a cheap set to start. I'll see how I like them.

I've learned more about music and drumming in the past 3 years than in the previous 59 combined. Old dogs sometimes have more attention span than puppies. :)

Today I took delivery of a Sonor Players bop sized kit. 20 x 12 bass drum, like Andy's former cappucinno kit. (dia x depth) 10" x 8 tom, 14 x 12" legged floor tom. 5 x 14 snare. 450 w/ free shipping. I need a tiny kit for small places. Looking at it, it looks like a kids kit. Sitting behind it, it doesn't feel like a kids kit. It's fun. Pic is not my kit, not my house. One color only. Comes with the cymbal arm.

A few months back Karl sold me a 24" Giant Beat ride. Sweet.

I've been keeping an eye out for a cheap kit that I can customise for my grandchildren - only 20 months & 16 months old so no rush(!) - & was asked if I wanted to buy a kit someone was getting rid of, so I got a 12, 13, 16, 22 Percussion Plus with all stands & throne for 20.
I'll probably use the 16 as the kick & make a small kit for them.
I know its a crappy kit but at least I won't worry if it's not perfect. Besides, once it's been covered in Peppa Pig or IgglePiggle decor I don't think they'll be bothered!

Picked up a Dixson bass drum lift to replace my Gibraltar bass drum lift. Seems to work good so far and no screwing into the hoop.

I just got this Ludwig LM400 Supraphonic 2 weeks ago on Ebay (really good deal, too). 6 years old and not a scratch or pit! With the batter head tuned medium, this baby just sings.

Damned, I love this drum!!

Here's a thing:

A 20" Sabian HH ride that's been extensively modified by the fantastic Ben at www.cymbalmagic.com. They do outstanding work and this ride is beautifully dry but retains its richness and projection.

If you want work doing on cracked cymbals, I highly recommend cymbalmagic. O-Zoning, edge repair, middle cracks taken out, bell conversions, spiralling and they're open to giving anything a go. They've just bought a lathe, too.

Really nice people, too. I can't speak more highly of them.

I recently purchased:
Meinl byzance dark crash 18 inch

Meinl Byzance trash crash 18inch

Waiting impatiently as they come through mail. Also bought Audio technica Ath- m50 headphones. I kinda splurged on myself.

Anyone have any experience with any off these things?

I have the trash crash and the 18" dark crash... I don't like the dark crash much, but it was too cheap to pass up. And the trash crash is amazing... One of the best cymbals I've ever played. Perfect for accents or for wash riding.

What about the dark crash didn't you like? For me it will be replacing a Sabian AAX Xplosion 18 inch. I know its a different animal, but I'd love to explore and convert all my cymbals into Meinl. As for the trash crash, thanks for making me even more eager to play it! That will replace my AAX ozone of the same size. Do you recommend any Meinl Rides? I need one to replace my K custom hybrid ride.

Came today and has a great depth and vibe to it. That's with original new Ludwig heads, which are really great. Once I get a few different heads on it to test it out, it will be superb.

I fear for your ride cymbal bashing up on the other side of the stand. I recommend getting one of those flat-based cymbal straight stands so you can bash it safely ;)

Just picked up some 8 hole hoops, & ordered some bowtie lugs for a 6.5 snare I am having made.

On back order, but I am getting a set of the new Ludwig die cast Classic bass drum claws.
They really look great. I love the design of them. A nice modern take on that classic claw.
I don't change out bas drum heads very often, but, the rubber hoop protector in them is a nice little touch.

These are going on the Red Sparkle MACH lug kit when it comes back in a few weeks.
