Default snare wood staining project on a gretsch 12x8

I took a new gretsch mahogany snare 12x8" in gold foil wrap ($90 new at guitar center after a price drop), took the badge and the wrap off (using a hairdryer and exacto knife), removed the glue (using a touch of mineral spirits, a cloth and 100-120 grain sand paper), masked the holes and bearings and applied tape (blue painters tape with edge seal) in vertical stripped patterns and applied a wood stain to it. two coats of the wood stain and two coats of finish.

Let me know what you think, if it could use different lugs, hoops, etc

I think it looks awesome the way it is, but it is all personal opinion. I have a 1970ish Rogers marching snare drum I have wanted to refinish and I might use your ideas.
