Adam Yauch dead at 47

been mourning all day

rest easy MCA
you helped raise me
we will miss your rasp
goodbye nasty

I got suspended in 5th grade for reciting the lyrics to "hold it now, hit it" at recess

Beasties have been a huge part of my life for nearly 30 years

Never been more than a casual BB fan, but Paul's Boutique has been in my regular shuffle rotation for as long as I can remember. RIP.

What's even more shocking is that those guys are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. More proof of how retarded that organization is.

And on that note...

........
You know that they played rock, punk and funk too? For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5rRZdiu1UE&ob=av3e
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBShN8qT4lk
Of course you didn't! You probably listened to 2 of their songs, good job!

Anyways, Beastie boys was a big part of my childhood, shared with The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx and The Chemical Brothers.
They really brought hip-hop to a whole generation, and also had a lot of talent.

hear hear Thaard

some cats just dont remember Cookie Puss

the Beastie Boys were a punk band before they were anything else

and even their hip hop was Rock based sampling Zeppelin, Creedence, and many other rock bands .....having Kerry King play on License to Ill....Rick Rubin ....most hip hop was rock based in the beginning

hell, Run DMC are the self proclaimed "Kings Of Rock"

Beasties are pioneers and are absolutely Hall Of Famers whether the Hall is a crock or not

I hear ya. I remember bringing the beastie boys anthology(I got it laying around here somewhere) around with me on vacations and such. So I would listen to it a lot, when traveling. I still remember some of the rhymes like: "We're three MC's and one DJ, and we be getting down with no delay, so mix-master mike watcha got to say!". Good times!

Here's also some brazilian Beastie Boys too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZxIALBCWrw

The Beasties were HUGELY influential to modern music. They were pioneers. They infused so many styles and genres way before they were even considered genres.
They also pioneered many recording and sampling techniques.
You can hear the influence in so many bands today.

You will be missed Adam. Beasties have added to many great memories in my life. I think they were definitely worthy of the Hall of fame, and not just for personal reasons. I think they were incredibly influential and a lot of that has been mentioned already in this thread.

This is a thread about remembering Adam Yauch WHO HAS DIED OF CANCER! Not about some crappy rock 'n roll list.

some peoples egos just get in the way Thaard

its all about them

.....look at me and how much I can disagree with the majority ......

all the cool kids are doing it

Not to disrespect the dead, (honestly,. I don't even know who the guy is), but I cannot believe the Beastie Boys influenced anything worthwhile. They were a bunch of kids who shouted. Off key. On second thought, maybe they WERE influential on modern music!

Didn't the old people back in the day say the same thing about the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Sabbath,Led Zep?

Of course, it's mostly based ignorance and "I don't like new stuff that breaks boundaries, Harumph!!"-mentality. You didn't even check any of the links I posted.
