I have A yamaha recording custom set from the early eightys
Does anyone out there know were you can find replacement parts or stands from that era
I have a snare stand that broke I would like to find a replacement snare drum stand or base. any links or info would be nice Thanks

I think you are referring to what is known as the 900 series snare drum stand.

Had the knurled insert do the same thing on a cymbal stand. The fix I found was take the knurled insert all the way out then take the wingnut out. Go get some gorilla epoxy and put it on the outside of the knurling and tap it back into the hole with a rubber or plastic mallet. Let it setup for a day or so, put he wing nut back in and it should be good to go. Just be sure not to get epoxy in the inner threads the wing nut goes into .
 
Thanks I going to use some stuff called JBweld. It may not work the hole is distorted that the nut sert just falls out. Of course this happend at a gig, I am just playing along and all of a sudden my snare drum was gone. it sank about 10 inches.

JB weld should do the trick as well, that's a great product!
 
That old 7 series was great! I loved those stands.
I only had one do the same thing, and I had a lot of them.

I haven't used JB Weld (have seen some bad results), but I have used Devcon Epoxy.
It's available at hardware stores, and the best stuff I have found is the 2 ton clear Epoxy.

I have done a lot of hardware fixes and customizing (for myself and others), and this stuff always works and never comes apart.

You can pop out the threaded nut, clean out the hole and the nut with rubbing alcohol, mix an spread some of the epoxy in the hole, slip the nut back in (and tap it if necessary) and wipe off any excess inside the tube and out.

It sets in about 2-8 hours and full set in 24. It's a long set, but it's worth it.

Thanks I used that same epoxy my stand is like new agian.
