Hi-hat Stand and Snare Stand Inquiry

Hi! I'm a new drummer with two noob questions about stands, oddly enough. The first has to do with properly calibrating a hi-hat setup. I'm not sure if I have the respective top and bottom cymbals tightened correctly. I'll link you to two videos demonstrating the present state of my hi-hats.

My second question is simpler. I've got a Ludwig Supraphonic snare, and I recently picked a Rogers Dynasonic. Unlike the Ludwig, the Rogers has a bulky, free-floating snare wire system, and it seems to not fit my snare stand. Specifically, if I open the stand claw wide enough to accept the Dynasonic, the middle of the stand contacts the snare wire apparatus, which is a real problem. The Supraphonic snare wires are more streamlined, and they successfully (barely) clear the center of the metal stand. I searched Google, but could not find any examples of people having to buy larger snare stands to accommodate a Dynasonic. Amy I crazy, or is my current stand just too small to deal with my Rogers? Thanks for any assistance!

Here are two photos of the Supraphonic on the snare stand.

And this photo shows the problematic portion of the Dynasonic:

I think you inverted the hats. So usually hi hats are formed by a lighter cymbal on top and a heavier one below as the bottom hat. Since the bottom hat is supposed to be relatively stable and not to all over the place like in your video, I assume you mistakenly put the bottom hat as the top hat. The solution is simple: just take off the clutch from the current top hat and put it on the lighter cymbal. Then just swap their order so you get the lighter hat with clutch on top.

Snare stand wise I think you’re set but if you keep having problems then it’s time to buy a slightly bigger snare stand. But I’m sure the current one will work out.

The felt under the hi-hat bottom cymbal seems to be too thick. It should form a sort of cup under the bell of that cymbal. The top cymbal is definitely attached too tightly. Try loosening the nut a bit.

The snare stand looks like it is too small for a 14" snare drum. Look into getting a new snare stand.

The top hi hat cymbal is just tightened up too much.
If you like the way it sounds that way, it's OK, but "usually" there is some play in the top cymbal. You can have them as loose as you want if you like them that way too--no rules, you just don't want the top to be clamped down too much so it's just taking a beating and being held tightly with no give when the stick hits it.

To have the bottom less wobbly (if it's a problem) just use a thinner hi hat stand felt. Those are usually harder felt also and the cymbal won't move around as much.

The Rogers snare issue might be helped if you can set the gripper of the stand within the gap of the flanges of the hoop, instead of it just resting on the lower rubber flat part.

Good luck and have fun!

I think the top hat is too tight to the issue of choking it. Let it move, and see if you can tilt the bottom hat some to prevent air lock.

You can use some type of spacer (such as vinyl or plastic tubing) between the snare arm original rubber grips that will provide enough clearance.
