I only know what Pearl has said about 10 years of R&D going into the line. I don't know if there's some other hidden meaning behind it or not.

I will say it's an odd name, even among Pearl's penchant for random-sounding names for models. I'm a little surprised they didn't just dust off an older name like World Series or something else like they have with Session.

This line will be replaced by another line, or maybe just renamed, in 10 years or less.

Wow - it took them 10 years to figure out how to make a maple drum set.

I just googled “Pearl MCT” because I was having a conversation yesterday with a friend about coconut oil.
I wanted to see if they had a set with that acronym.
Sure enough, it’s the Pearl MCT Maple Complete!

Pearl will make up new names and lines for their drums before you can figure out what they’re selling and then they’ll change the designs and names again!
Like the Session Studio select and the Session studio Classic- made from different wood, but have almost the same name.
Same goes for the Masters Maple MCX and the Masters Maple Complete MCT.

Who’s to know what the drums are by their names?

A year from now that Decade Maple will probably be replaced with a Decade Maple Select, Session, Complete, studio, of some other name that sounds almost the same but is totally different.

Well it isn’t North American maple “-can’t find what it is. But they are thin shells with low mass hardware=itty bitty lugs. It’s got too few on 16 in floor tom for most taste. But I bought a 13/16/24 for squat cost- and (once I quit fooling with this idiotic tuning app on my phone ) have got them sounding nice. I wanted to try a 24 inch virgin. It’s a fun kit but the Master’s kits they are discontinuing sure sound tempting.

I think you should treat yourself ASAP. At the prices dealers are blowing them out at, there probably isn't much left now. And I think if you do find them, your only choices are shamrock green in MCX and golden bronze glitter in BCX.

Well you really can question the name of every single kit in the market now:

-Why Pearl Export? A lot of kits get exported to other countries but why is this one called this specifically?
-Why DW Collectors? Nobody really collects these kits and they're not really collectable items so makes no sense
-Why Yamaha -Custom? Are Tour Customs custom built for tours? What about Recording Customs? Does that mean they are not suitable for gigging and live situations?
-Why Ludwig Clubdate? Do you have dates in clubs with those? What about Neusonic? What the hell does that even mean?
-Why DW Design? Does it have the best design out of all the DW kits? Isn't that subjective? Or is it made for designers in mind? Do designers even play drums? What???!!
-Why Mapex Saturn V? Is it a rocket kit? Is it made for people who own or have flown in the Saturn V? Are astronauts really drummers?
-Why Mapex Armory? I don't see any weapons in it so why is it called that? Maybe you can store your handguns in it but you could do that with any other kit in the market.
-Why Gretsch Broadkaster? Is it universally used in broadcasting stations or what?
-Why Pearl Reference? Are the kits in the mid/high price range referring to the Reference? Is it a reference to some film or book? What is it?

You see OP, I could go on forever and list nearly all the kits that have strange/out of context names. Some of the more straight forward ones are:

-Gretsch USA Custom: Gretsch drums with custom sizes made in the US, makes sense

And that's it, can't think of more

There's no strict rule in naming drums apparently, so your question will proabaly remain unanswered.

Lately I played that kit at a store, the bass drum sounded amazing! Better than a masters series 24 x 14 which is the same sized drum! (I think it might have been the tuning though). I've been in love with 24 x 14 since then, I want one to say the least!

Reason why I ask... not that I'm that naive but, when I first heard of these kits, the name does suggest that the maple might be a decade old, which would be quite good as (typically) wood gets better with age, 10yrs is a head start. Of course, that would be too good to be true for a kit that cheap.

After reading the description on their website, they say something along the lines of; "10yrs of brainstorming to make this kit". That would be quite a lot of effort for a kit this cheap... I would have though.
