Mic cable adapter. Is this the one I need?

I have a couple mic cables that I cant plug into my mixer because they have a guitar-like jack on the side that would plug into the mixer
Is this the adaptor that could fix that? I think it is but I cant totally tell.

1. No, it's not. Unless it's marked incorrectly on the website, the FEMALE side of the XLR cable is the side that a mic plugs into. The MALE side of the XLR is the side that plugs into the mixer. It's confusing, because when you look at both ends, it would appear as though the male end should actually be called the female end, because it would enclose the male end on the outside, but it is called the male end because it has those 3 little prongs that fit inside the 3 little holes on the female end.

2. It's SOOOO nice that the website doesn't show you a picture of the actual XLR side. I'm sure they've gotten people buying the OTHER adapter when they accidentally ordered this one.

3. Just get an XLR cable in the length you need. Whenever you join two cables, or a jack and a cable, or whatever, you leave yourself open for outside interference. Use the fewest amount of cables/connections, as short as practically possible, to get the job done.

If you need to plug an XLR MALE in to a 1/4" FEMALE socket on the mixer, what you need is a FEMALE XLR-to-1/4" MALE transformer. Transformer being the operative word because something happens electronically as it gets stepped-down for the 1/4" part.

They're pretty common, most stores that sell PA stuff will have it. There are two types: one where it's the barrel and on one end is the 1/4" male plug, and the other where you have the transformer barrel, but then a short cable comes out of it and terminates to a 1/4" male plug. I prefer the latter because it alleviates some of the weight being put on the 1/4" female jack on the mixer.

It sounded to me as if his cable was an XLR to 1/4", and he needed an adapter to plug the 1/4" end into his mixer with an XLR input. Re-reading, though, and reading your post, Bo--I could be wrong.

What IS the situation exactly, Blankso?

Sorry - I re-read his post. He has FEMALE XLR-to-1/4" MALE mic cables. He needs to plug them into a mixer that only has XLR FEMALE jacks.

But this doesn't sound right either, as mostly all mixers would have both XLR jacks and 1/4" jacks together. What kind of mixer is it that only has XLRs for your inputs?

If this is true, then what you need is a 1/4" FEMALE to XLR MALE adapters. You can find those at the same place. Oddly enough, I saw some at a Radio Shack not too long ago, that was weird.

I need to make my mic cable thats like this http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...sQO5vd27Cw&page=1&ndsp=66&ved=1t:429,r:16,s:0

To Turn into a mic cable that can plug into something that can plug into one of the 8 inputs that are on the left of this mixer

You could get something for this, but do you see the LINE IN jacks just below the XLR jack? That's where you'd plug this mic into. You don't need anything.

Or, I would just replace the mic cable with one that has XLR's on both ends. That would be cheaper than trying to find an adapter. $20 for an inexpensive 25 footer.

Cool! Thanks! You'd be looking for a "female 1/4" to "male XLR" adapter.

You ***CAN*** get an adapter, but I'd suggest just getting an XLR cable instead. Less chance of problems with noise/radio interference/popping/signal loss.
