Sorry, I can't answer because I play 3 genres with 4 bass drum sizes.

I play in a praise and worship jam band, which I suppose is rock.

Rock - 18" bass drum

We are going to jam today, whahoooo. Peace and goodwill.

What did you just say?

Sorry, I did this kind of thing for work all the time so I take it for granted.

Basically, early results suggest that there's some merit to the stereotype of rock drummers playing bigger bass drums than those who play more intimate music like jazz and lounge.

Also, 22" is still easily the most popular size but there seem to be a lot of big BDs out there.

Well you know what they say about guys that buy big bass drums! :) You should do a bass drum depth one also!

Hmm ... a large cylinder ... protruding out ... from the front of the drummer ... and then he beats the daylights out of it ... nup, don't understand the imagery ... could you explain please?

;-)

Does R&B fall under blues or pop?

I guess you could put me down under blues, 18x22.

The 16x16 (Safari) gets used for the same music in tiny bars but if there's room, I prefer to bring the good kit.

Right now I use a 22" bass drum on my gigging kit. Rock - classic and surf.

Up until a year ago I used a 20" kick kit for the same genres. It's been relegated to practice kit.

Rock - 26" (if I had to get rid of my 20's, 22's, 24's ... yeah, I'd keep the 26's).
