Im gonna buy a Custom C&C drum and I want to know whats the best option for me about the sizes, diameter, etc. of the shells. I play fast hardcore / punk with much pivot technique on bass drum with a single pedal, what is the best bass drum size to make a defined and loud sound for the pivots? Just want a reference point to think and chose the best option Thanks for all

I personally really like 22" bass drums in general. I recently switched from an 18x22 to a 14x22, and I have to say, I really like the 14" depth. It takes less force to push the air through the drum and make a full sound. I noticed with the 18 (and all 18s I've played, for that matter) that, while they sound really nice when pummeled (providing they are tuned properly), when I got into really fast stuff, the notes could get a bit muddled together. Or you'd hear too much of the batter head, and not enough of the reso head, which gave a more slappy/papery sound. On the other hand, with a shallower kick, I've been able to get a nice, full sound with every hit.

From the sets I've played, to get the really punchy kick drum sound for punk I like more square drums. If you go with a 20" diameter it will have less air inside the drum. I think the depth of the drum with it being more narrow pushes the air straight from the pedal giving it the punch like punk versus the deep boom like metal. Has a lot to do with the heads, tuning
and muffling too though. |

There's a world of difference between the 22" and the 26". That's a big drum. It sounds great nice and mid-tempo and fat, but at blazing high speeds it might be pretty crazy. It could work, but you might find the 22" to work easier in most situations....especially in the transport department.
I just moved from a 22" to a 24", play punk and am still working out the kinks in it. It's deeper in tone and punchy, but the two inches really makes a difference. I could only imaging the 26" being even more pronounced. |

I hear sounds of bass drums 26 and are really quite explosive, my fear is that at high speed to scramble and lose the definition of sound or get confused with the bass. And what you tell me about the wood? 5 ply maple or maple poplar maple? May have a wood most suitable?

Woods? I don't know. I have a maple kit that I love. There's birch out there. It's supposed to be a bit brighter. That's really up to you and what sound you're trying to achieve. |

I have a snare from c&c and I wouldn't recommend them. The wrap finish was done horribly and came with glue coming out of the seams, the finish was also ragged and uneven up at the top which was hidden by the head. The hardware was constantly falling off the shells as the the screws came undone. I put it back together with loctite finally and it seems to stay together now. I would look elsewhere.
